I'm surprised I didn't see anything about this on the boards. HSN is having this cellphone as their Today's Special. It sells for $199.99 and has extras. It has Virgin Mobile as it's carrrier and has very affordable plans to choose from. I have never had a smartphone and was thinking of getting this. Does anyone have this phone, and do you think it's a good deal?

Virgin Mobile = Sprint. How does Sprint work where you live? http://coverage.sprint.com/IMPACT.jsp?INTNAV=ATG:HE:Cov

This phone maybe alright, but it is old. Two generations ago. It is too expensive at $199. Most folks would not buy it. They would buy the Samsung S4 or new S5. You should look at Verizon or AT&T online for a service, and phones that are available.

I have an Samsung S4 from last summer.

I have this phone. I bought it last year when it was their TS during Labor Day weekend. Since it had just recently been made available to the none-contract carriers, I paid $299.95 so today's TS is definitely a deal. This is also my first smart phone. I choose the Galaxy over an Iphone for 2 reasons:

1. I don't own anything MAC and don't expect to get an Ipad, etc

2. With my poor eyesight, I like that this phone is bigger.

My friend got an Iphone 5 and I couldn't believe how small it was compared to this phone. I use my phone mainly for work. I work from home and needed a good phone for all the conference calls I am on. I love I can call into my meeting, hit the speaker button, put the phone on the desk, and be hands free to multi-task as needed. Yesterday in fact, my client wanted to know what headset I was using because I sounded so clear. I said no headset just the speaker on my phone. She said it was the clearest she has heard anyone on a phone.

I still haven't learned how to really use this phone to it's fullest potential but I'll get there. I had a previous Virgin Mobile flip phone so I knew I would get coverage. Some people don't get good reception with Virgin Mobile but I do.

They have 3 different plans to choose from which I think is a good deal. The only difference between the plans is "talk time". Since I use the phone for work, I am on the $55 plan. I would recommend this phone. You would be getting a great deal.

I have this particular phone and love it. It was also my first smartphone...I find it easy to use, it was easy to get used to, etc. I am one of those people who has a phone for years and only switch if I have to so I was somewhat resistant. But I really do like it! A bonus - it takes GREAT pictures - better than my "old" digital camera!

I went to Virgin Mobile's website and they will have the Galaxy S5 on May 19th. It did not list the price but it will be at least $399 I'm sure. So to nutmeg3's point, yes, the S3 isn't the latest. When I got it the S4 was the latest but it hadn't come to Virgin Mobile yet.

You will always be chasing the latest, greatest model. On Virgin's website, they are still selling the S3 for $299.99. So you have a decision to make. Do you want to wait 10 days and order the S5 from Virgin which will cost, I'm sure, at least $200 more, or start your move into a smartphone that is under $200. It will depend on your budget.

I still think, if you are like me and just learning about smartphones, that the S3 can be a good place to start. But that is a decision for you to make. For me, I have no need, at this time to upgrade to the S4. I'm not a "gamer", I'm not surfing the net on it, I use my computer, so I don't need the latest and greatest. When that changes, I will upgrade.

I actually ordered this. I currently have a 4 yr old blackberry. I am not a heavy user of data streaming, but there is an app I could use for work on this that would make my job and my life easier and the phone has great reviews.

The new bells and whistles on the 4s and 5s I would not use anyway. i am thrilled and can't wait for my phone.

I am with a different carrier now and am just hoping Virgin service is good in my area. According to their coverage map they should be.

Yes it's been out for two years, but I don't believe it'll be obsolete anytime soon. It's an excellent phone and the price isn't expensive considering there's no contract, and you're getting a month of service with it plus the other extras. I never had any trouble with VM's service either.

I have the S3 and bought it a year ago in April. It's my first smart phone and at the time though I knew the S4 was going to be released a month later I couldn't wait. I needed something right away when I went to spend time with my mother in Florida since she was recuperating from a hip fracture. I found it easy the use and invaluable for looking up things from doctors, shops and other various places. I don't know what I would have done without the GPS and I could check my email. It was between the iPhone and the Samsung Galaxy. I went with the Samsung for the same reason someone else mentioned...the larger screen. To me that makes a big difference when you don't have the best eyesight!

My plan is through Verizon and they offered free classes for new users which I decided to attend (It was a one time class). It was helpful but you can also check tutorials on youtube for more information on how to do different things. At the time I paid $199.00 with a few extras like a car charger, screen protectors and case. To me the HSN price is not a deal since the phone is an older model. I'm sure you could find it for a better price.

It is how well Virgin Mobile actually Sprint works were you live or those you plan on calling. It depends who is providing customer service. Is it USA base or off shore. Samsung phones can be found at major wireless carriers at discounts.

Well, I wasn't looking specifically for a Samsung phone but it seemed like a good phone that would do the job for me at a good price. I am currently with a no contract carrier and wanted to stay that way...and I won't pay $600+ upfront for the "latest and greatest".

I guess time will tell about Virgin Mobile.

Same phone from AT&T on a no contract plan is $299. I presume that's nothing but a phone and a wall charger.

Did I mention that you couldn't pay me to use AT&T? Yes the difference is who you use for a carrier more than the phone itself.
