I have a "error report" that interrupts whatever I am doing and shuts down the website and returns to the homepage. This happens more and more lately. I have changed to Bing and this happens also. Did a virus check [all good] after every session on the computer and delete cookies and history as well. Anyone here know what might be causing this? Thanks in advance. Star

Homeland security has advised against using IE for the present. You should see a thread in this forum.

http://www.foxnews.com/tech/2014/04/29/homeland-security-warning-dont-use-internet-explorer/

I'm sorry, but I can't diagnose what is happening. However, it was on national news last night that almost everyone using Microsoft Internet Explorer as their browser should change to another browser until security issues are fixed. If you check the electronics forum you will see some others posted about this. I don't use IE, so I only listened with a deaf ear, but did call my brother immediately and advised him. He switched over to Google Chrome for his browser.

I don't know much about all this browser vs search engine stuff, but isn't Bing a product of Microsoft perhaps that is where the issues are coming from.

What version number of Internet Explorer are you using? If you are not sure go to the top and click on Help then chose About Internet Explorer. It will then tell you the version you are using.

I seldom use that browser because I prefer Firefox. Within any browser, including IE, you can go to Tools/Internet Options and go through and check the settings under the Security and the Privacy Tabs. Might see what boxes are checked and see if any of them look like they might be the reason you are being kicked back to home page.

Privacy and Security usually can be set to either not let you enter a certain suspicious website or a warning popup with ask you "if you want to proceed". Might try that and see if you find anything you can change that will not compromise your security.

If you don't have Firefox you might go to Mozilla website and download it and give it a try.

There have been news reports of major security/virus problems with IE the past few days. The reports warned people not to use IE till the problems were fixed -- a process still underway as of this morning 4/30. I had DH install the Chrome browser on my computer and have been using that instead. Easy to use -- and I'm finding it quite a bit faster than IE! I may never go back!

Luvmyteddy - do NOT use explorer until Microsoft releases the fix and it is installed on your PC.

If Chrome is ""too small"" for you go to the settings and change the Zoom percentage to a size that is more comfortable for you.

Starlight1, I was looking around and found this tidbit of information. I am not sure if it will assist you and it does sound complicated. I am far from being tech savvy, but there has to be a way to recover your passwords. This may help, but I would hold off until others have a chance to reply. Note: even though our computers do handy things for us, it is always good to have a hardcopy stored somewhere of all your websites and their passwords.

MS is not going to like this, but it's the best way to do it without having to install 3rd party password recovery apps and the like.
1. Download and install the newest Google Chrome.
2. Open Chrome, go to Settings, under the Users section, click "Import bookmarks and settings"
3. Make sure the From: is filled with Microsoft Internet Explorer, tick all of the boxes, then click Import.
4. Restart Chrome, go to the website you want to retrieve a password for and login using the remembered credentials.
5. Go to Chrome settings again, click Show Advanced Settings, under the Passwords and Forms area, click Manage saved passwords.
6. Find the site you are looking for, click the password field corresponding to it and click "Show". Voilà!

Also, if you really need to get into your banking sites before MS corrects this, you can sign into the banking website and when it asks for password, it will usually give you a prompt if you forgot your password. They will ask a few questions then send you an email to reset it. Some banking sites are more stringent and will require you to call them in order to have a password reset.
