If you still want to use XP, use another browser, i.e. Firefox, Chrome, etc. Do not use Internet Explorer.

I had to download Chrome in order to get forms for places like doctor's office, state tax forms, etc. But I still use Internet Explorer usually. Why shouldn't I? And my computer is XP. Guess they want me to be out big money to replace it.

Windows XP is 13 years old which is ANCIENT in terms of technology. I think Microsoft did well for supporting it for that long.

In my office, we still use XP. Our tech people told us to stop using internet explorer for about two weeks. Now they told all their clients, even those not using XP, not to use internet explorer. I guess after two weeks or so the vulnerability isn't there anymore. I don't know.

It attacks through Internet Explorer in all Windows versions. XP is especially at risk since there will be no patch for that and the older the operating system is, the more it is open for attacks. Those are the facts.

It is a serious security flaw that was identified in the browser, Internet Explorer. All versions of IE, regardless of your operating system, are vulnerable.

Everyone should immediately stop using IE, until Microsoft releases a software patch to close this security flaw.

Exactly, Bikkie. The technology changes quickly and new hardware and software are released to reflect the newer technology. Companies can support old technology only so long, and I think they do a great job extending their support -- but the time comes when it's just not feasible to do so. If we want to use computers or mobile devices, and we value our personal information, we have to update eventually.

I just came to post about this. So glad that a thread was already started. There is no fix for this yet, and even impacts anyone using internet explorer on Mac in boot camp. Anyone using internet explorer right now should stop! When a fix is released, of course those with Microsoft XP will not receive a fix because that OS is no longer supported. The vulnerability of XP is still there. Some major companies are paying Microsoft millions of dollars for XP support for an extra year.

They will probably have a patch out within a week at the most for IE. Windows XP though is ancient history...no more repairs or updates being released for that.

Thanks so much for everyone's posts to warn Explorer users. I used it with windows 7 on my HP PC today before I heard about it. I only checked email, went to QVC, HSN, eBay, and Craigslist. I bought the new HP Laptop which I received yesterday and set it up yesterday. My HP PC is dying... I won't be using windows 7 much longer... Did someone say there is a new update for Windows 8 on the new Laptop? Thanks again for all the info.

I don't think there is a fix yet. I just checked Microsoft's support site and they state they are working on a fix. That was last updated 4/28 but if they had a fix I think they would be shouting it from the rooftops and definitely would update the link from their own page.

Please don't use IE until the fix is offered and you install it on your PC.

If a patch for the vulnerability is quickly developed, it may be pushed out as an out-of-band Critical Update via Microsoft Updates. If a patch isn't developed that soon, then it may be released along with other updates on Patch Tuesday, which is the second Tuesday of each month.

what if you have a later version like Vista and your PC gets regular updates, should you just let it be? What do you all think of Firefox??
