MacBook - need tips to speed it up.

My MacBook is about 5 years old and I'm still using the original OS 10.5.8 that it came with. If I upgrade the OS, will that help to speed it up a bit? What other tips do you have to help me speed up my 'lil MacBook?

Definitely. Is there a reason why you haven't been upgrading? It's very important since the upgrade fixes bugs, etc.

If you have a slow processor and not enough memory, updating the OS won't change that.

Make an appointment for the Genius Bar at the apple store if you are near one they should be able to give you trips

Hey Glb, haven't talked to you in a while. If you don't remember me, you helped me practically rebuild my PC a few years ago, and I thank you. Now, regarding my MacBook, is there a test or something that can tell me my processor speed and/or if I don't have enough memory? I installed new RAM a while ago, but I didn't notice a difference after that.

Right click on the Apple icon in the upper left hand corner, select about this Mac and post back with your computer's specs.

It's probably being slowed down by third party software that installed. My suggestion, go to the apple help online forum, and start a discussion with this same subject. Either select the section for MacBook Pro, or air, whichever type you have. There are members there who can help you identify what is slowing down your computer.

You have a slow processor and the minimum RAM. You can't change the processor speed but you could add more RAM if the computer can handle it. How full is your hard drive?
