I am planning to rip out my wall to wall carpeting and perhaps use vinyl flooring instead. It's for my bedroom, living room/dining room, and a narrow hallway. I have a huge oriental carpet in my living room, a 8' round one in my dining area, a runner in front of my desk and a couple of smaller area orientals in the bedroom and one in the hallway. So not much of the wood/vinyl area would be exposed.

I want to keep expenses to a minimum and wondered if anyone here has used this kind of flooring. I looked on line and it seems to me that there is not much of a difference between wood and vinyl flooring. I would be interested to hear of anyone's experience.

We are putting resilient Viynl floor planks in the new house. It's actually not much more then carpet. I am not sure what brand it is. We did upgrade it because we went with one that had more detail and looks more like hardwood. It's not super dark with gray hues in it. I will see if I can get a picture. My mom has it on her phone.

We removed the wall-to-wall carpet in our living room, dining room and hallway. Did it in August 2016. Replaced it with Mannington Adura Max luxury vinyl. It is scratch proof, waterproof, and has a lifetime warranty. It is available in many different finishes and colors. DH and I are extremely happy with it and recommend it to others. In fact, I bought it because it was recommended by a co-worker.

This is the first I've heard of this product! I'm going to check it out one day this week, at our local flooring store.

We have some laminate and some carpeting in our home. But between our dog, and the grand kids, Im so tired of cleaning carpeting. And it's not the greatest as far as allergies are concerned.

I've been toying with the idea of putting hardwood through the entire house, but the cost is incredible.

Does anyone one know if this is a low VOC product?

You want to get the best one possible. The one we upgraded to was I believe a quarter more a square foot. If you google you can see the best brands. It looks like shaw makes one of the better brands. But if you go cheaper it won't be as thick and will look cheaper.

The big difference in Vinyl & Wood flooring is the PRICE. Nothing wrong with the vinyl if that's what you want. They have so many out there today that do look like wood.

Since you want to keep expenses at a minimum I would go with the vinyl.

We have tile & engineered hardwoods.

I am not sure if retailers have that brand. Ours is from the builder. But maybe you can find the same. My dad thought the regular plank looked to fake and shiny. That's why they upgraded to the HD. It has more of a pattern that mimicks hardwood and was only a quarter more per square foot.

If I was having new floors installed, I'd go with the vinyl planks. It's the most practical solution if you have pets. It the only floor you can scrub and get soaking wet. I had cork floors installed about 10 years ago and they've been a disaster. If only I'd known they were coming out with vinyl.

Hooray! Just got done with the kitchen remodel and looks great!! We also just had the Coretec Plus vinyl planks put throughout the kitchen, dining, living, hallway and 3 closets (have open concept).. We ended up getting the color Dakota Walnut.. It's beautiful. I originally wanted a light oak color, but decided to go with a classic floor, as we have a lot of oak furnishings, I wanted a little contrast.

They started two days ago with ripping out the old carpet in the living room (already tore out the kitchen ceramic tile ourselves), then laid the majority of the hallway, closets and part of the living room the first day. Yesterday they came and finished the rest, but have to come today to do all the trim work.

They did a fantastic job and I think I'll really like it. Just have to get used to such a large area to dust, clean all at once,( as before it was devided with carpet and tile).

Thanks a lot. Just having to deal with putting everything back, as it's stored all over my house....And the dust!!...Have dusted several times and it's still infiltrating my house. But it will decrease every day that I dust/wipe everything. Hubby also changed the furnace filter, which will help, too.

It's amazing how much dust is created from cutting into drywall/wood/flooring, etc.

I was also suprised how fast the contractors work.

It took approximately 3 weeks to get everything done once they started.

I thought I'd be in this mess for 3 months, but 3 weeks isn't so bad....

The only thing I'm waiting on now is my new stove,. is arriving tomorrow. Been without for about 2 weeks now..cooking on a hot plate is not my cup of tea....but managed...Very happy now!!

Everyone have a great day!!

Hi Everyone!

Just wanted to thank you for all the helpful information about vinyl flooring. I talked to my contractor today who brought me a lot of rather large samples of an enhanced luxury vinyl floor boards. I had decided that I wanted a warm medium golden brown color and I found exactly what I wanted. It looks exactly like wood with all the different striations. If I had not been told that it was vinyl, I would have thought it was wood.

He probably won't be able to do it before June, but that is okay. That gives me time to go through all my drawers and shelves and give away all the things I haven't used in a long time.

Thanks again.

Have you seen tile that is the same size/look as wooden flooring? It really looks nice even though it's not in our home.

The key is to have a thin grout line and it will look like a wood floor.

@CLEM, very nice. I'm sure you will enjoy the flooring. And June will be here before we know it, time flies by so fast. I am using vinyl plank flooring for my downstairs hall and bathroom. It takes a beating from everyone coming in and out from the pool, so I need something durable, that wet feet won't harm. I am hoping to get it down in the next couple weeks, don't know exactly when, I already have it home, so whenever I get to it.
