MAking a bed with King size sheets

THose of you who have a king size bed know that the difference between the length and width is just a few inches (about 4 inches). THis presents a challenge when making the bed to determine how to put the fitted bottom sheet on correctly. NOw I have several sets of Target Threshold sheets which I love not just because of the quality but because they actually put a label in the bottom sheet telling you what is the side and what is the top/bottom of the sheet. I read somewhere that the manufacturing standard for sheets is to put the fabric content/ care label in the lower left corner of the sheet as you are facing the bottom of the bed. DOes anyone know if this is true or do you have some secret to know which side of the sheets goes where when making the bed?

I have had a king bed for over 40 years. The mattress is 78 x 80, so are the sheets. I usually just consider it as just about a perfect square and put the sheet on according to the pattern and dont worry about the width and length, unless it absolutely is too tight, then I just flip it around. My mattress pad does fit better when the grooves are horizontal, rather than vertical.

MY sheets are all solid colors so using the pattern as a guide does not work.

good question!

even queen size is a challenge with some sheets. when getting new sheets, i pin a small safety pin to the inside corner seam, close to the elastic on the corner i typically start with. i suppose a perm marker spot or something else would work also.

You could get a laundry marker and mark the sides/top/bottom yourself. It wouldn't be too hard to either do a tick mark or write out the word. I tend to buy patterned sheets, so the pattern sort of solves that problem. Plain sheets would be the ones that were hard to tell. I can see bed making being difficult for people with dexterity & mobility problems, so knowing hat is what the first times makes a difference.

If there's no tag (lower left corner) get a laundry marker and mark that corner. that should be all you need to do.

I do the same thing with solid sheets, I just open the sheet up across the bed and start with the bottom corners first, if it seems a little tight by the time I get to top corners I just flip it around. I have never thought anymore about it before or made any kind of issue over it. Just use your common sense, if tight, flip it around. It is only a 2 inch difference at best between length and width. Some things are rocket science, this is not.

I was taught that the fabric tags go on the bottom right corner if you're standing at the foot of your bed, looking toward the head of your bed. (bottom left corner if you're lying on your back in the bed.)

WHat I really want to determine is what I read somewhere a long time ago about the manufacturers always putting the fabric/care labels in the bottom left corner of the sheet a true statement. IF that is the case then I am good to go. I would be concerned that putting a small safety pin in the correct corner and then washing the sheets would cause the pin to rust eventually

I'd have to peek under the corners of my sheets, but I want to say the tag is on the flat sheet and not the fitted sheet. I could be wrong though.

It might not be rocket science, but especially anyone with physical challenges wants to get it 'right' the first time, without all the handling (and making dust) of all that fabric, all the moving back and forth when you choose the wrong corner the first time.

Little things like this (marking or tagging the corners so it goes on right the first time) are time and aggravation savers. And that is not to be rudely dismissed.

Mine work best with the tag in the upper right corner…maybe it varies by brand.

@KingstonsMom ITA. That's how my sheets are with the exception of 1 set it's in the top right corner. I assume it was sewn in the wrong corner.

The sheets I have will only fit one way.

Northern Nights puts a tag on the lower right corner. At least they do on the Queen size.

@KingstonsMom Every things I have found on line agrees with this for the fitted sheet. If for some reason the sheet doesn't have a tag, I would measure it then permanently mark it.
