Searching for cooling mattress protector

I'm on the hunt for a new protector for my new Sleep Number king bed.

The one I have now is a good one, but it seems hot to me. And, I've had it for awhile.

I know there are some that claim to cool you, but if anyone has first hand experience, it would be welcome.

Don't know if this helps, my BFF recently purchased a mattress top from the wouthern channel and loves it! Guess she's got one of those adjustable mattresses which she likes but said this new cover brought the comfort over the top! Plus, what sounded great to me was that it's got a zipper around the top so to clean you just have to unzip it off the bed - no hasstle!

I've had lots of different pads over the years, but specifically want one that disperses body heat better than the one I have.

I will check HSN to see if they have any. Didn't even think of them.

The description doesn't say "cooling", but all their other products had cooling properties.

You reminded me that I wanted to order one so I looked it's their Concierge brand zip ease and twnety dollars off, but only have T,F,CK! Shame on me, but I only strip the bed once a year 'cause it's such a hasstle so I really wanted one of these.

She lives in NH so weather isn't really hot right now, but we used to work together and she always ran hot - I was the one always freezing: so assume if it was hot she never would have kept it.

Anyways, hope you find what you're looking for!

I have an OUTLAST body regulating mattress pad. It is cool to touch and NASA inspired.

It works OK but still not perfect.

I know SleepNumber has a cool/heat pad that might be worth looking at but it is $$$$.

Sometimes I get a soft gel ice pack out of the freezer, wrap it in a pillow case and put it under my pillow so I can always have a *COOL* side. (just a suggestion)

DH runs COLD and I run HOT ! I keep a box fan by my side of the bed on low.

If you find a great cooling mattress please do share the information here!

It was high 70s here in Maryland for a few days and I was pushed to find something thinking we were already in summer

It's back into the 30s for a bit, but I still need to find something.

Yes, I keep a fan going in the summer, but sure would like to find something that didn't heat up.

I've never found one that stays cool. They all heat up at some point and some even make it feel hotter than it would without one. When I bought my memory foam mattress I knew it was going to be warm so I looked everywhere, bought a few covers and gave up some of them, too, because they didn't stay cool.

This sounds a little counterintuitive but what I finally did was put a very thick 100% wool blanket right on top of the mattress. Then I put on a regular mattress protector over that, followed by my sheets. What the wool does is prevent your body heat from going into the mattress and heating it up. My mattress stays at a constant temp and my body feels comfortable because of the breathability of the wool beneath me. Wool is a very good temperature regulator...it never over-heats and it's breathable. If you're wondering if it itches...NO, since it's away from my body, separated from me by two layers.

My dog, who sleeps on my bed next to me, would not stay on my bed when I first got it because she got too warm. After I put the blanket under us, she loves it!

Thank you for the *THICK WOOL BLANKET* suggestion. If a sheepskin works this will work too.

I have seen that idea online and today put a thick Hudson Bay Wool Blanket on my Serta Bamboo Pillow Top / HOT mattress. On top of the Blanket I have put my OUTLAST cool to touch mattress pad. It helps but I think the wool blanket barrier will be even better.

As I mentioned earlier, I have wrapped a soft/gel pack from the freezer with a pillowcase and put under my pillow which means I have a cool side pillow and it feels GREAT!

I run HOT and DH runs COLD so it gets interesting around here... I keep the heat set at 64degrees in winter and 74degrees in the summer. My MIL keeps her house at 80degrees summer and winter, I do not visit very often because the HEAT makes me ILL.

@ SillieeMee I second this. I got a cuddle ewe under blanket ad havn't looked back. I got it shipped directly from their .com site. It wan't cheap but with my fibro, it was worth it. I use it year round in the deep south heat and humidity. I do use a cooling gel pillow for my night sweats, which have improved since going with the wool under banket It is wrapped in a cotton cover, and I use a brethable, waterproof matress pad cover to protect it.

I have just put a heavy Hudson Bay WOOL blanket on top of a DUVET that is on top of the Serta Bamboo Mattress.

*Mattress *Cotton Duvet Cover *Wool Blanket *Outlast/NASA Mattress Pad*cotton sheets

Do you think I should put the wool blanket into the DUVET cover which is 100% cotton.

The DUVET is now on top of the mattress and is basically 2 layers thick.

I will try this current combination i put together tonight and report back!

Please DO tell us more about this cooling gel pillow you have. Does it stay cool?

Sometimes I get a GEL wrap from the freezer and put into a pillow case to go under my pillow so I have a COOL side when flipping the pillow. AHHHHHhhhhhh......COOL!

My Box Fan by my side of the bed is my friend.

Experiment with the Heavy Wool Blanket worked great! THANK YOU for this idea!

I have a double layer cotton duvet on top of the mattress and then the wool blanket and then the Outlast Cool to Touch NASA Mattress Pad. Sleep was cooler and comfortable.

I got it at Costco, but it isn't online. I just ordered two different ones from Zulily that are similar gel covered (both sides full coverage not a little pad on top) memory foam/latex. The one I got at Costco came in a silver wrapped box. They have some similar ones online. I got one of those Chillow things, and while it works, it weighs a pillow down. I also got a cool gel pillow case with the cool gel fixed into one side of the pillow cover. It too changes the density and comfort of the pillow used with it. The ones with the integrated gel/memory foam don't change in density/texture and doesn't affect the comfort level of the pillow.

My wool underblanket from CuddleEwe is like the below.

I can't seem to copy and paste it on my tablet, but just google it. It looks like a feather mattress topper, but it is wool and about 3 inches thick! It really adds comfort and temperature control to your bed. It is like having one of those pillow top mattresses without the extra money involved.

You don't wash it, but flip/rotate it and air it out. Wool doesn't like water. You could dry clean it, but because I have it protected with a breathable waterproof cover, it doesn't get sweaty from my night sweats. I've had mine about 18 months. I love it. It has made getting up with fibro easier but you don't want to get out of bed either! I saved up for it, the $350 or so I paid for it. I have a queen, so a good memory foam topper would be around there too for 3" of dense foam or cooling gel. My grandmother did get one of those gel toppers from Costco, and it is nice and cool, but I was sleeping on it in November. It did cool things off in her HOT house this Thanksgiving when it was still in the 80s outside in deep south Georgia. She is 80, so if it is below 90 she is cold.

My MIL keeps her FLA house temp thermostat set at 80 degrees winter and summer.

I do not think this is healthy. I cannot even visit her very often because it is too darn HOT!

I keep my thermostat at 64 in the winter and 74 in the summer, I live in SW GA.

MIL has trouble sleeping, I think it is because her house is TOO DARN HOT ?? She says she slept better at my house over Christmas visit and my house is not so HOT ???

My 85yo Father keeps his house temp set at about 76degrees which is miserable to me.
