I just saw on ours, that there's an expiration date on them. I guess due to dirty hands on the pump unless you clean it or it lasts a long time, it might need one. We use ours up so fast, I had no idea there was on on there.

Did you notice that on yours, if you use that?

I think they mean the soap inside - not the dirty container.

Your post prompted me to have a look at 2 large refill bottles I have. One is TopCare brand (think I bought it at my local grocery store), 40oz size and has no expiration date on it. The other one is Softsoap brand 32oz size it has an expiration date of 08/2018. Who would of thunk it? And it's not easy to spot it either, very very very small imprinting right into the plastic of the bottle, no ink or anything, just raised up from the plastic like it was molded into it from the inside.

Just came back to add that I just checked 3 of my 7.5oz Softsoap dispensers, which are what I have at my sinks and keep refilling from the larger bottles and none of those have an expiration date.

Yes, it's for the soap inside. They put that on there because over time the soap will lose its germ killing efficiency. You can still use it, it just may not be as "potent". I have a pretty Christmas pump bottle I refill every year. The expiration on it says 11/30/2006. So no worries about throwing out the pump. It will probably out live us all

@CelticCrafter, Right. I didn't know soap expired, since I never have any of any kind that lasts that long. I was just surprised to see it on the container. I wash the container off too.

Your question prompted me to go look...no...no expiration date on my container...also looked at the refill container...none there, either....i use up hand soap so fast it really doesn't have a chance to lose its efficiency.....

It sounds like this product got caught up in some legal category for some reason or another. I took a cue from hospitals, restaurants and gas stations. I re-use a Top Care bottle that creates foam. I keep it filled with one of the Philosophy lighter scents, the lemon custard, fresh cream, etc. group. This foaming action makes any soap last forever. Just put a couple teaspoons of soap in the bottom and fill with water, leaving enough air space to allow shaking. You will be surprised how long this lasts.

I always throw out soap when it gets old. I figure it can get musty, moldy and slimy and bad. Why wouldn't it? I don't keep products I think might be old and not fresh. I was reading about someone keeping beans for years on another thread. I mark things when I bring them home from the store and then clean out pantry and shelves at least twice a year.

I'm in trouble; I just bought about 2 years worth of foaming hand soap during BBW's annual sale. It's my favorite.

i just got 3 bottles of liquid foaming hand soap for christmas.i was at a friends house back in the summer and i raved about how great it smelled. so she got me some from bath and body works.

@qualitygal, It's been found that the antibacterial soaps are not a good idea, and they're being removed from the market (probably being phased out). Maybe that's the type that has an expiration date.

Many years ago I worked in materials management in a hospital, and once monthly we went thru every item in inventory for expired items, be it soaps, lotions, to IV fluids, etc. Every single item had an expiration date on them. We also made sure to rotate to the front anything that was getting close. They had been short handed for a while when I first started and that was my priority, to get things update, at first. Threw out a lot that first time through. Maybe that's only for hospitals? Idk, but I can find exp. dates on all those things in my own home since then, I never even looked before then, lol.

Every time my DH washes his hands he pumps that thing about 10 times. Huge waste of soap AND makes a big mess all around the sink. However, we use up that soap way faster than it could ever get a chance to expire.

I date ALL our food when I bring it home if it isn't dated. I go through everything at least twice a year. I don't take chances with food.

I just checked the BBW soap I just got. It doesn't seem to be anti-bacterial nor does it have an expiration date.

If there is a fragrance in the soap, it would eventually go rancid.
