just got my maytag dw repaired yesterday. i ran ok on normal cycle but i couldnt select any other cycles or change any cycle options. they replaced the front control panel. covered 100 percent by my service contract. repair would have cost us allmost 300 bucks. we paid 380 for the 5 year contract.

I had a control panel go out on a dishwasher one time and I took it out myself then bought a replacement for it from a local appliance-parts store. This was not hard for me to do because this kind of thing was sort of what I used to do at my old job, only there it was for medical lab equipment.

Appliance repair can be so costly! It's a good thing we have warranties.

Sounds like that maintenance contract paid off for you. I usually don't buy those things. How long have you had the machine, @Pooky1?

We need a new dishwasher badly. I don't even know how old ours is, but about one week into owning the house a "flywheel" on the bottom shelf blew off. I've been running it three years without, and still here to tell the tale. Clearly this model was not designed for "modern" plates that are any bigger than salad size.

My trusted small appliance man, and my trusted plumber, both showed me where we need a plumbing upgrade in order to get a new one fitted. Arghh. I always get antsy over those things. The potential for something to go wrong, or even worse, badly, is always there! (I know, I know, worse things have happened, but plumbing leak comes to mind.)

I feel your pain. I live in an old house and one thing always leads to another, nothing is simple.

I need a new gas water heater, I'm putting it off as long as I can, it's just me in the house so it's not a huge problem - yet.

It's not original to the house so maybe it won't be a major big deal when I finally pull the trigger.
