I had a Cricut and literally gave it a way to a kindergarten teacher. It was like $1000 worth of cartridges and special cutters and all. If I were to do it again. I would get a Silhouette from silhouetteamerica . com It has far more cutting options and is computer based not free standing like the Cricut is designed to be, but you have way more options and the technology is cheaper, so your investment is better spent. You can even cut out free form designs you've scanned from images like gaskets for machines and things. I know a lady that used hers to cut a gasket for her husbands lawn mower engine from gasket paper. Lots of options. They are the parent company of the idea and prevented Provo Craft from having software allowing you to design freely or convert images to cut like from fonts and wingdings. Cricut has to use the cartridges for the image even in their Cricut Studio software, no cartridge, no image.

I, too, would suggest the Silhouette Cameo or even better yet the Brother Scan and Cut. The Cricut I gave away along with all its cartridges. I found it much too limiting and the options with the other two are endless. They are a bit more costly but when you consider the cartridges needed for the Cricut the price is well worth it.
