Granite Transformastions

Has anyone used this company for remodel? I am looking to update my baths and kitchen but don't want to spend too much because I expect we'll be moving within the next 5-6 years. I just want to upgrade enough to make the house more likely to sell when the time comes. Anyway--just wondering if anyone had experience with them for countertops, refacing cabinets or bathrooms.

I would go to Lowes or Home Depot for a little remodeling work in your home.

Several years ago I got an estimate from GT for my kitchen counters. The estimate was more than getting actual granite would have been, so I chose not to go with them. A friend of mine, who has a much larger kitchen than I do and more counter space, used GT and was very happy. It depends on your space.

Just a thought....if you change it now, in 5-6 years when you want to sell your house, it will be out-of-date because the preferred styles, materials and colors will have changed by then and you'll have to do it over or sell your house for less. Any chance you can wait 3 or 4 years before re-doing it?

DH and I had a GT salesman come to the home, measure the countertops, give his pitch and an estimate. It was twice as much as we thought it was going to be. We went to a granite yard a couple of days later and had real granite installed for almost half the price! The GT samples were no where near as pretty my real granite. I was shocked at the price. Give me the real thing anyday. And for less? It was a no brainer for me.

Thanks everyone! Wow--I never would have thought that GT would be more expensive! Thanks for the feedback. Since we have at least 5 years I am just beginning to explore options. I want to make the changes with enough time for us to enjoy them (and not just in time for the next owner!)--but not too far in advance so that everything is dated. So we likely won't do anything for a few years--but I wanted to start to think about how big, and how much $$ so I can begin to set money aside.

Just yesterday on HGTV they mentioned that the price of granite

has come way down making it affordable for people who still want it.

I can't recommend GT at all. They are franchised so you are at the mercy of inconsistency. I had looked at GT when I wanted to do a minor remodel of my kitchen. In their showroom, the edges of the display countertops were chipped and worn -- didn't bode well for actual use. The product was thin and looked fake. They wanted to apply tile OVER my existing thick tile backsplash, which would have looked AWFUL. The price at the time was equal to/more expensive than granite. I ended up going to Home Depot, had a great kitchen consultant, and did my minor remodel with them in 2010. Still looks up to date and I was very pleased with the price and overall project. I did granite countertops and tumbled travertine tile backsplash, new sink and faucet.

iI highly recommend Granite Transformations! They did my kitchen countertops and bar countertop and backsplash in kitchen about 8 years ago....no cabinets had to come out or anything.....in and out in two days.....they removed the old backsplash and put tumbled stone tile on the backsplash; it is beautiful.

the countertops are gorgeous and no sealing or maintenance required other than normal cleaning....very durable and still look like new...the cost at the time was a little over half of what regular granite would have cost.....the price was not the only factor; not having to baby solid granite with sealing, etc. was the reason I wanted Granite Transformations to do our kitchen.

Sorry, but I disagree. Granite will probably continue to be a mainstay as far as counters go. And it goes without saying there are always going to be people who won't like the material no matter what it is or what is current. Most people prefer stainless......I prefer black appliances. Will I change to stainless just to sell? No. But they will be newer. Will I change my granite counters to sell? No. Not as long as they are in good condition. If you want to remodel, remodel with what YOU want to live with for the next 5 or 6 years.

ITA with you! i can't imagine granite every going out of style! of course trends will always make something else the new "it"! i also have black appliances and i love them! i just love walking into my kitchen and seeing how beautiful and shiny they are. my home is decorated the way i want it because i live here. what someone else has in their home or what someone has chosen as the "new" look does not matter to me.

I love this company. We did the kitchen in our former home. The consultant helped us choose the right counter and backsplash combo and we were soooo impressed with the installation and product! Loved that there was NO demolition and done in a day after it had all been measured and templated. We used them in our current home for our bathroom counters and recommend them every chance we can. The price was a LOT cheaper than granite, so just a lot of positives for us.

We also got a quote from Granite Transformations a few months ago when we were looking to replace our countertops. We were not impressed. The choices of colors were not as wide or as nice looking as granite. The price was more expensive than the granite we did put in. I must say, I was surprised by that. My granite was done in 5 hours complete with demolition, granite, new sink, faucet, and garbage disposal. My kitchen is not small either.
