I've had that happen and you really do need to dry it for while. The dryer needs to be balanced out with items on the other side equilivant to the weight of the pillow. I'm surprised you were able to wash it without balancing the washer.... but that's the thumping you hear is the unbalanced load.

Letting it air dry may take a long time and might promote the growth of mold/mildew so it might even be worth taking to a laundermat to dry completely.....

Good luck!

It takes a long time to dry a pillow completely. Put a few towels in the load with it to balance the load.

You may need to take it to a laundromat to use the big dryers, they work great.

I didn't see any comments about putting a tennis ball in the dryer with the pillow....however, a caution......pillows have been known to start a dryer fire IF it becomes lodged up next to the vent pipe exhaust. (I know a woman who made this mistagke - dryer got hot and pillow was almost dry).

About the suggestion to put pillow back in washer for another SPIN cycle. New machines lock the lid - take commands from the computer so you don't have any options to select 'another spin'.

I found a solution to this. I have bought VERY expensive pillows and VERY cheap ones and eveyrthing in between. NONE of the ones I've bought have lasted very long.

SO, I go to tjmaxx or somewhere and buy reasonably priced name brand ones at least every 6 months. I just simply gave up on doing anything else.

I can't stand the smell of foam pillows either.

Spin in several more times in the washer, and balance the load with wet towels or whatever if it gets off balance.

If it is warm where you are, put it in the dryer for an hour or more, then hang outside in the sunshine, then back to the dryer. You want to be sure the center is dry within a 12 to 24 hour period, or it could get mildew/mold deep in the pillow.

Several more spins should really help.

Just last week I washed 2 my pillows at the laundramat in the largest washer with the blanket and a mattelasse bedspread then pout them in one of those super huge dryers and they came out fabulous . I think the blanket and spread beat the pillows up in the dryer and it was good for them. They came out perfect.

At home I take spreads and pillows to the laundromat to wash. Those huge washers do a great job and the large dryers are just what you need.

Here is what I finally did. You are right the cycles did not finish. I took it out and started to step on it. No kidding. Well that did not work. Soooo I did put it back in the washer and put it ON SPIN. It was slow at first then the washer picked up speed and all the water was spun out. I then put it in the dryer and all is well. I hate to waste things so I am going to put it back on my bed. Feel so good about this.

Thanks so much everyone....

Run it thru as many spin cycles as it takes to be able to lift the pillow from the washer without feeling like it is saturated. Each cycle will draw out more moisture. Last time I washed pillows, it took 4 extra spin cycles before I could toss them in the dryer.
