Foyer Light/Hanging Pendant

Anyone have any photos or pics they'd like to share? I've browsed through so many I've lost tract of what I like or want. Any recommendations or experiences you'd like to share?

I'm sure you've thought of this, but make sure that you measure exactly how low the light can hang in the foyer before it becomes a problem. I was going to get a hanging light but realized that when the door opens there wasn't enough clearance. I have to measure carefully before I buy a light for that area. As such, I've left the rather uninspiring original fixture there. I have a tiny house and front foyer, though.

When we got married in 1983 my Grandpa bought us a beautiful chandelier for our entry, which was 1 1/2 stories high. It was the ones that were popular at that time with the glass sides - ours has flowers etched in the glass - and it hung behind a beautiful high window and looked great from outside. Of course the new owners took it down and hung something more current, but I loved that beautiful light.I loved when I'd get home from work on a cold night , all tired out, and DH had that light on to greet me, and light the staircase.

At Christmas we would buy a huge wreath to hang around the outside of that octagon shaped window and put just a big red velvet bow on it . Light the chandelier behind it - and a spotlight on it from outside.

I'm a really big fan of the craftsman style. I especially like the simple, art deco designs of this genre.

When I bought my house, I changed out every single fixture, both inside and out. I got all of my lighting at arcadianhome.com.

I had my electrician come to the house and I showed him printouts of everything I wanted to order, and made sure that it would cast enough light for each space.

This is interesting. Many of today's new homes have lighting that was actually designed many years ago. One man, Frank Loyd Wright the architect, designed many lights back at the turn of the century. He is my design inspiration. As a young girl, I wanted to be an architect like him. If you get a chance go online and google Frank Lloyd Wright lighting....it's amazing!

OMG - our new house came with light fixtures no one would keep - the ones you can buy at Home Depot for around $10 - double yuck!! One of the first things we did was change out every single one. We went to a store that sells ceiling fans and lighting and ended up choosing everything from there -5 ceiling lights and 2 chandeliers plus 3 ceiling fixtures down a long hallway. However , I put out those cheap fixtures we took down when our community had a yard sale - marked them $5 each and they sold immediately.

I enjoyed FLW as a young female too. Did a college paper on him and one of his works.

I know we complain about this look or that look and I'm not to excited about certain styles I admit, but then I think it's American and it doesn't exist elsewhere in the world! I then realized I have something special.

Speaking of Frank Lloyd Wright.... My dad was an architect and he LOVED Frank Lloyd Wright's designs. we actually went to the home -"Falling Waters" when I was a young girl - totally awesome, from what I remember anyhow. He was into clean lines and different angles. He was my dad's inspiration - and, it showed - my house was designed by my dad and it was totally modern from the ground up - no ordinary tract home there for sure!
