@bonnielu I can't remember the brand(s), but in the cleaning stuff section of the grocery stores where they have those spray on carpet cleaners, there are 1 or 2 specifically for pet stains. They are easy to use and work great! I've used them several times--no odor, no stain left. Just protect your wood floor while using. Good luck!

I have no idea but don't know if I would put bleach on it. I found this info online that may help.

In case of a food spill or urine on a rug, the problem is much more easily handled if the spot is treated promptly, before the spill is allowed to dry. Blot up as much liquid as possible with paper towels or a clean, white cloth. Try to rinse out as much of the spill as possible.

Add about 1 cup of white vinegar per gallon to the rinse water--vinegar helps prevent colors from running and will help neutralize the urine odor.

After the rug has been rinsed, blot dry and sponge with rug shampoo or with the solution given below. Let dry thoroughly (drying a wet area of a larger carpet can be hastened by arranging the carpet so that air can circulate both top and bottom--drape the end of the carpet across a lawn chair, or put a sawhorse or painted bench under the rug in the area of the wet spot).

Spot Cleaning Solution

1/4 cup white vinegar*

1/2 tsp liquid dishwashing detergent

2 cups tepid water

*Most Oriental rug dyes are acid-fast. By adding a little white vinegar to the wash water you make the wash water more acidic, and this reinforces the bond between the dyestuff and the wool in the rug, and so helps prevent the colors from running.

Finally, sponge the area with cool, clean water to finish. Use absorbent towels or a firm, non-shedding sponge. Don't use a brush so stiff that it pulls fibers from the pile. Don't scrub hard at the pile. Sponge in the direction of the nap. Place some towels under the spot to keep floor or pad from getting wet. Dry thoroughly. When the nap feels dry, check the back of the rug to be sure the area is completely dry.

You can read the rest of the info on their site. I checked a few more sites & they all used white vinegar.

Enzyme type urine removers feed on wool and should not be used on Oriental rugs.

https://jacobsenrugs.com/blog/how-to-clean-oriental-rugs-and-carpets

I would try either Joe Campenelli's spray carpet cleaner sold on QVC or Foley's carpet cleaner sold at BBB. I would cover the part of the rug that is next to the fringe so neither of the overspray touches your beautiful rug. You may have to apply a few times but let it dry and reapply in a day or two.

I have aubuson rugs and some of my older ones have the fringe. We got two GSD puppies two years ago and we had just a few accidents. The fringe was the most difficult to clean. This is what worked for me. Good Luck.

Make sure the plastic you have down is sufficient, first.

I'd wear latex gloves (I do for everything...lol) and lay a flat plastic lid to something you don't want to use ever again. Soak the fringe with sudsy dish water--really get a lather going. Then use clean water to rinse. Wring it out as best you can. Use a clean towel (I'd pitch it afterwards), maybe a hand towel on it's way out to the rag bin?

Make sure the plastic stays there, maybe lift it up with something underneath the fringe so it can air dry?

It should be okay. Boy that's the way it is sometimes when people bring their pets. Are they looking at you like it's no big deal? I hope not! I don't understand when pet owners think it's okay for things to get ruined--it's nuts.

Enjoy your vacation!

Do not use chlorine bleach. Mix a solution of oxi-clean and warm water. Sponge onto fringe, let sit for a few minutes then rinse by dipping into clear water or sponging on clear water. Finish with a rinse of water with a little vinegar in it to keep the cotton fringe from browning in case you have a little soap residue in the fringe. Blot dry then prop off floor surface to dry completely. Clorox 2 or Biz might work if you do not have oxi-clean.
