I just redid my kitchen and now have stainless steel appliances. I purchased a product described as "best for cleaning SS appliances and leaving them streak free" - well it doesn't . I don't want to ruin the finish and want something that can be used on a daily basis. Thanks in advance.

On 12/31/2013 lolakimono said:

Polish Stainless Steel Appliances

Stainless steel appliances are a gorgeous accent to any kitchen. Unfortunately, the metal is prone to finger smudges and other blemishes that make it look dull. Luckily, our friends over at Real Simple have discovered a great way to polish stainless steel appliances using olive oil.

Simply pour a drop of oil onto a rag and wipe down the machine. Once the marks are gone, use a paper towel to create a shine.

This tip is great if you’re looking for a natural way to clean because you’ll avoid harsh chemicals found in traditional cleaning products. Also, since you most likely already keep a bottle of this kitchen staple in your pantry, it’s a bit of a money-saver.

Thanks Lolakimono - another great recommendation.

Happy New Year to all Q board cyber friends.

I tried the olive oil, and had streaking on my appliances. I use Weimans on my fridge, dishwasher, two ovens, warming oven, and microwave and it works really well. I can have all of those appliances wiped down and buffed in 5 min....streak free. I can't ask for more than that. I was glad to hear about the olive oil....just didn't work, for me at least, as well as what I already use.

After trying many store bought specialty products that I was told I needed (which did not work well) A kitchen designer friend of mine told me that all you need is a clean damp microfiber cloth and WATER. All of those other products just build up on your appliances. I have used this method ever since with NO streaks or build up. Sometimes the simplest things work the best

I use white vinegar on a damp flour sack dish towel. I wash these towels and hang to dry, NO fabric softener, and use them for eye glasses, hard wood floors, windows, computer screens and all my SS appliances with a touch of vinegar. Shine and no streaking. And this gets everything really clean and sparkling, vinegar disinfects too. And ........... inexpensive and at your grocery store.
