I did not even mention our site has an outdoor fireplace for our campfires and a nice shady picnic area right off our back door. Even a parking spot that is large enough to accommadate the car and the golf cart. DH & I stay in hotels a lot on our trips back & forth from Florida and I can tell you from experience - it is a lot nicer to have a camper for vacation.

There are everything from van conversions to huge motorhomes. We started out years ago with a pop up tent camper - inexpensive and easy to tow with a car.You are sleeping under a tent inside - and they now come with showers and toilets - but you have a hard floor with real beds to sleep on.We always say we would like to get another one and tour the country. Then we went to a trailer then a couple fifth wheels and now we are in a park model - which since we actually live in here 5 months of the year - we went for larger and a little more luxury than we normally would. There is always a balancing act between budget, what you want to do in it - travel or park it somewhere - the driver's skill levell if towing it - how rough do you want to go. You can spend a few thousand for a used pop up or $100,000 or more for a luxury motorhome. My first marriage we went on our honeymoon in a truck camper and toured all around Canada. We had a ball. Had a run in with some bears -- Oh to be 20 again.

There are different types of camping. I enjoyed the OP's thoughts. It's not for everyone certainly but, I think the type of camping in the camper the OP speaks of sounds really great. I just wish I could talk my DH into something like this after retirement in about 1 year from now.

It would be a dreadful world to live in of everyone loved doing the same things.

My only drawback is that they do stay put for that $50 a day, and that comes out to about $1500 per month.

Everyone has a different budget, but that is pretty high to stay in one place. It isn't like you are traveling and seeing the country and all kinds of cool places for that kind of money. You are basically paying high end rent (for that part of PA) to stay in a camper. Nothing wrong with the lifestyle, just isn't really what I'd call 'cheap'.

151949, A wonderful friend of mine had a I would guess a 70 ft. mobile home that they actually had it parked on a river lot. Some how they had in door plumbing connected to it. It has all the comforts of living in theiw own home away from home. Many weekends spent with them at the river every night a beautiful fire to sit by. They built their own picnic shelter so meals could be eaten out doors at the table even if it was pouring down rain. Lawn chairs lined the river bank and we could watch all the people out on their boats riding or water skiing. They have a boat so if we want out on the water we can do that also. The one part that is so nice is the people you meet at the river all very friendly there to relax and have a good time. Heck they even have a regular phone line plus their cell phones. There is everything there that a person could want. Never saw anyone who could do canning on a Webber Grill but bushels of tomatoes were done on that grill. We would laugh when this lady would decide to do some fancy tough cooking and would be cooking on that grill in the middle of the night some of the others campers would stroll over and she would be sitting by her fire and they would want to know what fantastic item was she cooking or baking at that hour of the night. So many great memories of being at the river with these people would want to never ever. forget one good time. For years these were the best summers and in the fall it was time to close up for the winter and rake all leaves that fell from the big trees but the good times went on till the snow started to fall. Glad you two are making great memories.
