Is there a product that whitens your clothes -- no fragrance and no bleach?

Is there a product or something you can add to the wash that will whiten clothing without fragrance?

I cannot tolerate bleach or chlorox type products.

Some of my husbands t-shirts and things are getting that dingy cast and I do not know what to use to brighten them up. I also have some white things that could use a boost.

Bluing comes to mind. Been in use since the 1800's.......and available in the laundry department.................

I have the bluing but don't use it often.....I can't see that it does much to my whites. Does using it on a regular basis make a difference?

That's exactly what I was going to say. Use a bleach alternative and bluing. Works great!

I like OxiClean powder. It whitens well and I haven't noticed any fragrance.

can you dry outside for awhile sometimes that helps,

personally bleach does the best job, and you don't need much. Use hot water and extra rinse

Oxyclean is OK

I use oxiwash in with my detergent on loads I can't bleach, but to be honest, I don't think anything does as good a job as bleach. I have only white towels, sheets and napkins because I always bleach them to kill germs on them.

Sun shine bleaches naturally, also i like bleach best,rinse with white vinegar,that takes the bleach smell out.

I had a red wine stain that my MIL treated with water and sun....gone.I think that a good sun bleaching works wonders as another poster stated.My mom always hung white sheets out to dry and they seemed to be very nicely white in my memories...got to love the fresh smell of crisp sheets dried by the sun.

Ritz Dye makes a Whiter and Brightner that works great. It comes in a box and is sold beside the clothing dye.

if your clothing is 100% cotton, you can use bleach. Do not use bleach on polyester fabric or cotton/poly blends as it will turn polyester fabric yellow.

If if the fabric is polyester soak it overnight in hot water and automatic dishwasher detergent made without bleach. It is made to clean plastic and will clean poly which is a plastic fabric.

I've used RIT Whitener Brightner. It works pretty well.

I never use bleach or Oxyclean anymore. It seems (for me at least) both break down fibers and any elastic in clothes or fitted sheets.

@AngelPuppy1 I also hate the smell of bleach and when I used Bluing, I inevitably ended up with a blue stain or two on one of my white items so this is what I have been using for over ten years. It is a powder that you use along with your regular detergent. I order it from Soap.com. Amazon has it sometimes also.

I use Oxyclean as did my DS when she was a nurse. She had uniforms that were ages old that looked better than the younger nurse's white scrubs!

I switched to All Free & Clear tablets I use them for my whites, towels. No bleach for me or scents. I know I first tried them in a smaller package.

Thank you all! I am grateful for the suggestions! I will add some comments here and might have some more questions regarding some of the products.

I know that hanging clothing outside to try is a nice thing to do and my mother did it when we were young but I do not have a clothes line and I really don't have the time, energy or inclination to do this!

As for bleach, my mother did believe in using this and said it was great for sanitizing things but also felt it was to be used in moderation as it was tough on clothing if used all the time. And yes, bleach does tend to yellow some fabrics.

I was told by my dermatologist not to use bleach on my clothing, bed lines, towels, etc, and also not to use any products that had any fragrance such as laundry products.

So, these are not just personal choices I have made to not use these products but are things that I have to do because of skin conditions, etc.

I have used the liquide from this company and it is good. It his particular product just for white things? I cannot tell from looking at the picture. Thanks!
