Can you check on "Consumer Reports". My husband likes to check things out there. It rates on different things. I'd have to set in the chair/couch to see how I fit into the item, with the back I have. See where your legs hit too!! That important. If seat is too sinky you have to fight your way out of it. I don't care for that kind. I'd go with Lazy Boy too. My mom got a great couch there once. Nothing lasts forever anyway.

Hello!

Well, after 25 yers of abuse, our Bassett sofa is about to hit the road. I'm looking for a comfy upholstered new 1 & am so confused about the various company reviews.

Has anyone purchased a sofa lately who'd like to share their views?

Looking for something 85 -90" in length, a fabric that can hold up to a 40 lb. pup, & a neutral color. I found the "Brewster" in Bassett, but I'm just not in love with their lack of fabric options these days.

Sure would love to hear from you!

I highly recommend Lazy Boy - if you have a retail store where you live. I've found the quality and comfort to be better than just about anywhere else - at any price point.

I recommend FLEXSTEEL, best frames around and they offer top quality fabrics as well as top quality foam in their cushions.

We had terrible, terrible service as well as product from Lazy Boy and had their repair guy out a total of half a dozen times to repair seams where the fabric would pull away from the stitching. Stitching intact... the actual material would stretch away and pull. The company would not do anything through the repair guys. Finding the owner (not easy) was the only way to voice a serious complaint. The owner "allowed" us to trade the suite of furniture (we bought $6 worth of furniture) for another suite. Believe it or not, within 6 - 8 months we were experiencing serious problems with the fabric and foam cushions (and frame) of the new set. Never again.

A few years later, by chance, we met a gentleman who used to be part of a LZ Boy management team and as we were talking he told us he quit the company because they were actually having meetings as to how to get their product to last less time. In other words, to stop an average 10 - 15 year lifespan of a product to last maybe 7 - 10 years. So that the customer would have to buy furniture more often. I swear this is true.... There may be quality items in their stores.... but we weren't fortunate enough to find them.

(A good book regarding planned obsolescence is "The Wastemakers" by Vance Packard)

Certain lines of furniture follow different styles. I recently replaced our Broyhill couch which isn't "modern", nor do I decorate that way. I'm more of a modified French Country.

What is your style? Are you traditional?

My only input is not to expect anything to be as good or last as long as your 25 year old sofa.

Mine is that age, and still looks like new, but I'm really tired of it. I'm not looking forward to shopping for new, as sofa buying is the hardest furniture for me to decide on, and I know the new one won't be as solid as this one is.

I'm going to need a new one in the next few months. Will have to be a comfortable queen sleep, too.

Mattresses are so thin nowadays. A furniture boutique I visited a month ago actually offered an air mattress to go on top of the sleeper mattress. Came from the couch manufacturer!

Has to be slipcovered too, and I don't want anything that has to be drycleaned.

Problem is the fabric that I LOVED was a paisley done in corals, turquoise and lime green, but was made of linen. I've since read linen is horrible for upholstering as it stretches. I can't find a fabric that I love enough.

Very personal finding the perfect couch!!!

Our family room furniture is Henredon that is probably 20 years old. They have been recovered once and I will be recovering them again realy soon. Excellent frames. Our living room furniture is Hickory Chair sofa and two large chairs. These are about 25 years old and I will be recovering these also. Its expensive to recover but the frames are built to last.

Beckyblu

I bought a new sofa in December 2014. It's a Sherrill and is holding up extremely well. I've had a Sherrill in the past, too, and loved it. I would highly recommend a Sherrill. There were lots of choices in fabrics. The sofa even came with two pillows that I got to pick out the fabric in. That's a small thing, but one that I was pleased with. I had them Scotchguard the fabric because of my dog. I know I could have done that myself, but I'm sure I wouldn't have done as good a job.

My sister just bought a Pottery Barn sofa that she likes a lot.
