This comes up again every few months and I am always glad for the reminder. I think the last time it came up it was in terms of giving a soft throw to people going through cancer because it is comforting and warm and the treatments can leave them feeling cold.

Thank you for posting this.

I used Jill Bauer's suggestion to give a soft throw to a grieving friend who has just lost her beloved husband after 58 years of marriage. I wrote the words Jill said she received with her throw. My friend was touched and over overwhelmed. I am so glad I did this and would do it again, if I have the opportunity, I hope I don't need to do this again too soon. Thanks, Jill.

Thanks so much, greamy, for this suggestion. I have a friend who is having a really hard time, and though I have said everything I can think of to help her, she is so distraught. I love the idea of a blanket, regardless of who suggested it. (I love Jill.) Maybe this will help; it certainly cannot hurt. A nice blanket, and I'll write my own words of comfort.

I appreciate you sharing this, and I'm sorry some people took a sweet and caring idea and made it about something else.

Thanks for your post.

tea

I bought the 2 pkg. which was very inexpensive for the quality. I had already sent one to a grieving friend about a month ago and the other one went to another friend who just lost her mate. The first lady loved the gift and the 2nd one is on the way to my other friend.

Maybe I should order another set to have on hand since I always have som occasion to give one. I also prefer to write my own note but the one mentioned is lovely.

I may mention that I also send a litle book to each grieving person, "Getting Through the Night" by Eugenia Price. It is suitable for most anyone who is going through the grieving process.

I read about this previously and thought it was a wonderful idea. I have a friend who was going through breast cancer treatment at the time. I sent her the package of two cuddly throws, one in pink and the other in neutral tan. She absolutely loved them!! She used them every day when she was recuperating. I would not hesitate to do this again for anyone grieving or going through an illness. Hate to see anybody be critical of Jill over such a wonderful idea.

On 11/2/2013 greamy said: Stevieb, I write many notes of encouragement every week to my friends who are ill or having a rough time. My notes are always my own thoughts and I hope are a comfort to those who receive them. I used the words Jill received, not verbatim, but as I would write them, but I thought they were a good words of comfort. I hope you are having a good day and enjoying this beautiful Fall.

I think that when I originally read this way back when, that it was one of the nicest things I'd ever heard. I'm glad you shared it with those of us who can appreciate this sentiment. To anyone who sees it another way.....so be it. I'm almost at the point on some things in here, that if I want to comment I may, but I may not read most comments left, too depressing.
