RANUNCULUS

I havn't heard anyone pronounce this correctly. Albany just said "raniculas," lol, even Valerie doesn't pronounce it correctly, she calls them ranuculus, pretty funny, but they should learn since they are presenting products made of them and other flowers.

I love ranunculus, so pretty, great colors. They remind me of some types of roses who's petals are tightly compacted. We never seem to have any in our garden though.

This year, must plant some.

@PINKdogWOOD I hve several large pots with deep maroon, but in my previous home, I planted tons of all colors as I didn't have to worry about gophers there.

@lucymo I think it's the same, the spelling is correct, not an "nic" or "nuc, lol.

@mousiegirl Whatever, they are beautiful, sometimes called Turban flower, I believe. What fun we have in the garden, I can't wait. It's pretty warm here in southern Mo this week. We had thunderstorms this morning, sun is out now. I'll be cleaning pots soon and lugging bags of Miracle Gro soil. :-)

I love, love, love them since I first saw them on a Martha Stewart show in the 90s as a teenager. Too bad they don't grown in the deep south of Georgia.

@Mominohio Whatever works. LOL They are beautiful flowers. I usually grow them in pots rather than in the ground, works better for me.

those of you who have grown ranunculus, or had the cut flowers:

i have to order some bouquets that are 'fragrance free'-

sometimes the roses aren't, and there is an option of ranunculus, but i have never seen them in person, only seen pretty pics- and the supplier won't vouch for ff on anything....

can you tell me :

do they have any scent at all?

they look sort of fragile - are they ?

how well/how long do they hold up as a cut flower ?

@shosh I have never noticed a fragrance in the Ranunculus but I am not allergic to fragrance. If you're at a greenhouse or garden center they will probably have some in pots blooming and you can check it out to be sure.

I grow them in pots and don't cut the flowers for bouquets inside but they are long lasting in the pots. Hope you can get some this year, they're beautiful.
