Does DH want a to give his opinion when you buy new home accessories?

I redid the great room couch with an attached back and lot of pillows in red almost a year ago (below) by Cozy Life which is the quality level of Broyhill. I also got a large matching chair and ottoman.

I showed DH the pictures, but since I taught design, he just said to get what I wanted.

Now I'm ready to replace the lamps which were dark metal with handmade ceramic. I'll probably just pick those out my self.

Do you and your hubby do all of this together like my neighbor? He wouldn't ever let her have anything but beige! (But he watches a lot of tv).

Since I don't have a DH I can pick out whatever I want. I've had friends whose husbands only wanted beige or navy, everything neutral, even bed sheets.

I just tell DH after I buy something, he has no input. Of course when it comes to holiday decor, that's another story, lol, as he thinks I buy too much of that, and he is right.

Yes my DH and I picked out our family room furniture together. We desperately needed a new sofa as the old one was sagging. We found a set that we agreed on at a local store that is going out of business. Our criteria was that I could lay on the couch as I am very tall and we had to have enough seat and back room. We got the complete set, sofa, love seat and chair.

Yes, he will go shopping and provide input into larger home decor items like furniture and lamps. A couple of times he had made choices that I was not 100% on board with -- but they were good choices that I was ultimately happy with. I figure, he lives here too!

He does not provide input into every accessory, like a pillow or a candle. Just the big stuff.

Inside house is my territory outside is his except for patio furniture, the color of the house and where the flowers go. I guess he does what I want and never complains. I pick out everything. If hubby didn't like hubby don't have to sit.

DH is always entitled to his opinion regarding holiday/home decor. I swear I always listen to him (ya' right). However, I reserve the right in exchange to off my input on his golf clubs and fishing poles...!

We make a joint decision on comfortability to each of us, discuss durability factors and that type of thing, but when it comes to design, style, color, etc., he leaves that to me. He has always said he likes my choices and thinks our home looks good.

We used to go together and make all the choices together, but honestly, I don't think he really has any interest any more.

We haven't bought any furniture in way over a decade, except for mattresses, and he did participate in that. Maybe in a few years, when we start to replace the upholstered furniture, we will go together, but I don't see us ever buying anymore wood pieces, as I like everything I have, most of it is antique or handed down from family.

Even though I don't think he cares whether he helps choose or not, I'd not spend big money like that without discussing the prices and which pieces I wanted to replace before I go and do it.

My dh and I ALWAYS pick out everything together. We are pretty good when it comes to decorating.

Then I will make the purchase myself.

It depends what it is.

We usually shop for furniture together. I bought new lamps for our bedroom. I bought them and brought them home. He said he liked them. If he didn't, I would have returned them.

If I'm out shopping and see something, I send him a picture to get his opinion. He never really questions me on the things I buy for the house though.

My DH hates, HATES shopping of any kind! He'd much prefer that I go with my best friend, pick something out and then he'll go look at it with me--but he's never vetoed any of my choices. This is for furniture. Accessories are strictly up to me.

The last time we needed new living room furniture, my BFF--who was also furniture shopping--had a blast! We weren't in any particular hurry, and both of us enjoy the hunt. We visited every furniture store within 100 miles at least once over a period of 2 years. We both found what we wanted at exactly the same store! And, without knowing what the other was doing, we each took our DH's to look at our choices and placed orders the same day--she left the store about 20 minutes before I arrived!

I did want DH to choose his recliner, so I only decided on the sofa & side chair.

I ask his opinion and then do what I want, lol. We've been together long enough that I know his taste. He's more about function than form, so I try to choose things that are comfortable for him.

Accessories, no, my DH doesn't care. We been married long enough that he knows and likes my style in home decor. He trusts me not to bring home something that is tacky. If we are buying a piece of furniture - yes, he will definitely speak up. If he doesn't like the way it sits and feels he won't spend the money on it.

My dh and I shop together for big ticket items, but he always defers to me for the final decision. I have a knack for decorating and he......well......he doesn't. LOL

In 42 years my DH never showed any interest in helping to pick out anything for our home. The only thing he ever expressed any opinions about was his dislike of leather furniture. Needless to say we have no leather furniture. I figured if that was the only request he made in 42 years I could certainly grant his request. Also, he is color blind so helping to choose fabrics and colors was not Something that was going to happen.
