Quilting question

I am making a STRIP QUILT, no pieceing because I am in a big hurry and don't have time to make a traditional quilt.

I have four fabrics and I will use each fabric twice in a roughly 36" wide by 45" long blanket for a baby.

I did a mock layout on my computer, There are 4 different heights and of course all the same length...the question is when I repeat the fabrics should I just cut idential strips of each of the four fabrics. My worry is if I don't keep the measurements identical the blanket will look to busy, any thoughts.

The height of my strips range from 6.5" tall to 4" tall.

I am not good at this unless I have a pattern...I just saw this quilt and don't have access to the pattern for measurements.

I would appreciate any thoughts pro or con!

I'm not sure I understand your question. But if you have a jelly roll and need to make a quick quilt, go to You Tube and look for a tutorial on Jelly Roll race quilt. Easy and cute.

nompattern needed.

Though I've not made this quilt design, I have seen it demonstrated twice on "Sewing with Nancy" on PBS.

She is an instructor and pattern designer, so please know her instructions are really good.

I would cut them identical in size and if I can offer a suggestion, I would get a fifth fabric or eliminate one of the four you already have.

I find an odd number of fabrics to be more pleasing to the overall appearance of the quilt top.

@CelticCrafter I was thinking the same thing about another fabric, I rarely do anything with even numbers....a clerk at the quilt shoppe was helping me and we could only come up with 4 coordinating fabrics, sigh.......

What if I did three strips (1 each of 3 fabrics all the same width) and then a strip 1/2 the width or less,

I think so. After you do the 4th color then reverse the order of the other three.

So it would be 1,2,3,4,3,2,1. Then you could either border it with #4 if you have enough or bind it with #4.

I am a quilter, have one sitting in the frame that I'm working on. I piece on the machine, but hand quilt - I've never been able to master machine quilting or stippling.

I am laying under a quilt like this right now. It has four oro five different floral prints in different sized strip widths with a ruffle of a different color between two strips. It is super cute and wonderful. They are random and it works.

This is one I'm working on. I didn't measure or use a pattern, and everything is from scraps. I need to do the binding and the quilting still. It has been serged around the edges.

....I see your cat is insterested in your quilt!

I managed to get my strips cut and sewn....I had to redo 1 set ot strips, to me it was crooked enough (the pattern on the fabric was not straight) to make me not want to give it away. I'm done for the day, next step I need to trim it down to the size I want...It's a bit oversized for my taste. Happy quilting!

I did manage to learn about squaring up the fabric correctly....which I wish the light bulb in my head would have gone off BEFORE I cut the first set of strips, but I did learn a good lesson.
