We have a wooded lot. I'm at the bottom of a mountain and have hawk nests, lady slippers and Jack in the pulpet off my deck. I only have two real plants, a peace lilly in the greatroom, and a mixed green arrangement on the antique kitchen table. I have a natural wisteria basket with silk flowers on top of a high shelf on the greatroom and a berry wreath on the back of the front door.

Do you buy any real flowers or do you do a few silks? What are your choices?

I can't have houseplants because we are gone for 5 months every summer and we don't want to bother anyone to care for them for us. I do miss having pretty plants though.

Artificial is verboten in our house. I buy a bouquet of fresh flowers weekly. The accent color throughout the house is dark red, so flowers are in that shade, or white if dark red is unavailable. New flowers begin in the entry, but get re-cut and moved further into the house as they age. The final move, before being tossed, is onto one of the bathroom counters. I generally have a minimum of three full vases at any given time.

As for potted plants, we have them throughout the house, e.g., jade plant, pothos, fern, spider plant, zizi, lipstick, sansevieria, etc. Oh, and a tillandsia, aka an air plant, that is thriving in the master bathroom. The largest plant, a red margined dracaena about 6' tall, is in our breakfast room. A plumeria grew too large for us to handle, so we donated it to a local conservatory. Our oldest plant is an aloe that I would guess to be about twenty years old.

Edited to insert a missing word.

I don't have any live houseplants. I don't do well keeping them alive, but will say if someone occasionally gifts me with one, I enjoy it while it lasts.

I have just a couple of dried/silk type things left in my decor, and they are disappearing quickly. Many of mine were getting very old, I had too many for the changes I was making in my decor choices, so each year when spring cleaning hits, several more go. Many were swags and things similar over pictures. I've gone from more of a Victorian style to simpler decor, and am ridding myself of much of the 'clutter' that comes with that style of decor.

We live in the country, with a pond very close, lots of trees and a large woods directly behind the house. Most of our outdoor plants/flowers are now perennials and one bed in front really needs to be cleaned completely out and replanted as the plants are not as strong as they were 20 years ago when we moved in. Because of the rural environment, I prefer to enjoy the plants/flowers outdoors than to try to keep them alive inside.

I do love fresh cut flowers inside, but rarely buy them.

No plants for me...real or fake. I don't want the care/dusting of them, plus my cats would tear up/eat them.

If I didn't have cats, I would love to have occasional cut-flower boquets in the house!

Back when Home Interiors was popular, I, along with many other women, was convinced on how to decorate with specific wall displays and table accents. Besides the main picture, you needed a shelf, some kind of candle (votives on the shelf or sconces on the wall), a couple of coordinating figurines, and silk flower arrangments. I did my part back then, but I was sure glad when I redecorated and got rid of all the dust catchers! I have no silk flowers anywhere anymore, except if I might decide to get a seasonal wreath to hang up. The only live plant I have is a Peace Lily that I've had from when my mom passed away. When my peonies and hydranges bloom, I might cut a couple to bring in. DH will bring home cut bouquets for me and I'll always get an Easter Lily and Poinsettias, but they don't stay around long.

I let go of all house plants when my daughters allergies worsened, and my husband was diagnosed with COPD. I have never liked silk arrangements.

In my basement, I have a huge Christmas cactus that was started from the plant my Grandma had in her bedroom when she died in 1969. This cactus is very special to me, and my goal is to keep it alive as long as possible.

I have silk flowers on my entranceway table (it's a huge bunch I found at Hobby Lobby. I think someone was trying to hide it but nope, mine now). It's in a Waterford vase from Evine and people do comment how much they like it when they first see it.

For live plants, not for me as they would not stay that way for very long. I have absolutely no talent in that area at all.

I will occasionally buy a flower bouquet from Trader Joe's for the kitchen table when the spirit strikes me. They definitely do brighten a room!
