Interesting Situation!

My aunt is divorced and lives alone. She is very much a clean fanatic and an exercise fanatic! Always has been. She is still young and in very good health, anyway tomake a long story short, she is planning to sell her condo and move to her daughter's city in Florida, so that she can be near her grandchildren, so her condo is up for sale, her realtor said I have someone who is interested in looking at your cndo, but she has very bad allergies so you will need to take all of these candles and potpourri out to the garage, so that she can walk through, so my aunt said sure no problem, mind you her house is decorated for Christmas.....So she gets her candles and potpourri all stored in the garage, and the womens's daughters come by first and walk through and said nope way too much scent still in here, can you please open your windows for a few hours and air out your house? Mind you we live in a climate that is cold right now, but my Aunt says sure no problem-so she does, and then the realtor and the daughters come back over and said, well my mom is not going to come until tomorrow because she wants to make sure there are no scents in this house when she walks through........My aunt was so frustrated and angry!!!!!!!!Now mind you her condo is small-two bedroowm and two baths and a living room and kitchen, it takes all of 7 or 8 minutes to do a walk through!!!!!!!isn't that crazy??? Have you ever heard of anything so crazy???I understand having bad allergies to pets and certain smells, but geeze what more could my aunt do?

If your Aunt is lucky this person won't want to buy, will be pickly picky buyer and want all kinds of concessions.

No advice, what does the listing agent say?

Personally, I'd say she's done enough. I'd shut the windows. If she wants she can open them just before the walk through - altho then the woman will probably complain that the heating system doesn't seem to be working.

This woman doesn't sound serious - and even if she is - there will probably be more demands. It may be better to wait for another potential buyer.

I think your aunt has done enough too and should tell her realtor that. I agree with @jackthebear - this potential buyer sounds too picky and will only cause problems down the line.

I would be very careful if she wants you to leave the windows open at night...perhaps she has a relative that want to come on over and "walk through" the condo at midnight.

I was a realtor for over 30 years and never, ever encountered this kind of situation but I'd say your aunt has done enough, and then some.

My suggestion would be for the woman to invest in a mask that she can wear, perhaps something that filters out the scents but first, before I did one thing to accommodate her, I'd make sure she saw pictures in advance to give her an idea of whether or not she'd even like to see things in person.

I think this buyer's requests have gone way beyond the pale.

I agree with all of you, but my Aunt is so desperate to sell, so that she can move to Florida that she did all of this, now the woman has walked through and guess what-not one word from her!!!!!!!!I told her you are a nicer person than I........It was just so ridiculous because if you could see my Aunt's house, you would think you were ina model home-that's how clean and neutral it is...My aunt watched a lot of HGTV and she staged her house to all neautral colors and tones and it is super clean, but she does love her candles and potpourri-especially this time of year.....The woman wouldn't even look in the garage because my aunt stored all of her scented products in there.......What a waste of time for her!!!!!

I would let the 'potential' buyer know that I would not be opening any more windows or removing my holiday decorations and scents unless they came up with a firm offer for the home. If the buyer is interested they could contact me after the holidays.

I would tell your aunt to talk to the realtor and tell her that she's sorry, but she's afraid her home is not suitable for the client's health. She should suggest that the realtor show her client another condo.

What's her own realtor doing as far as having open houses, advertising on the Internet (with pics of the condo), and the local papers. Craig's List is also a good place to list. If her agent isn't working her b--- off, she should get another realtor!

You can never know WHAT IS NEXT. If if is a condo, perhaps there will be issues with the next door odors or whatever. It might never end. She needs to ask the realtor how serious this gal really is and if she has been PLAYING THIS GAME with other house choices. Buyers are sometimes demanding and since HGTV has showed up, even more so. Long before this show, someone walked through our house and did not like a cart that had some food on it that I was about to wheel out for a neighborhood party. It gets better with time with all these shows.

Here's a thought: why doesn't the "potential" buyer buy one of those cheapy masks to put over her nose? You can get them 3/$3 at a hardware store. This buyer is high maintenance.

Once again another person who expects the world to accommodate them! Your aunt has done more than enough. If a person is THAT allergic to scents then THAT PERSON must take the RESPONSIBILITY to ensure that she doesn't have a reaction. That means telling the realtor of the problem (she did) and hopefully the seller will accommodate their wishes (she did)... BUT the potential buyer also needs to make sure she has a mask that will filter all scents and even air particulates so that she doesn't get sick. Her illness is NOT the Seller's responsibility even if the Seller is kind enough to go out of her way to accommodate the potential buyer......

The potential buyer needs to buy a new house. Any house that someone has lived in is going to have scents.

When we were selling our agent was very aggressive and showed the place several times a day every day. I found many of the people to be unreasonable. One person actually put his finger in my pot of spaghetti sauce that was simmering on the stove and tasted it. My DH refused to leave during showings and he saw him do it.My DH approached our agent about it and how about keeping an eye on what these people are doing. The agent did buy us dinner out that night because I bet you know I threw that pot of sauce away.

The people who did buy our house were very particular and demanding. They came by several times to show the house to their friends and relatives - while we were still living there, before the closing. Doorbell rings , it's them wanting to show someone the house. We had to tell our agent to make them stop. We were trying to pack and they were really in the way! That never did stop happening and my DH would say to me "remember, they have our money in their pocket and until it is in our pocket we have to just pretend we like them". It is all a huge game - selling a house.

When my ex-h put the house on the market....he had a potential buyer...they were a young couple who came with their parents...

They loved the house and the neighborhood....they came back several times to see it...

Then they asked my ex if he would re=paint the house and work on getting the smoky smell out....(he smokes a pipe)...and they would buy it....

My ex told them the house is being sold as is...(by the way short of his smoking...his house is always immaculate) and that he is NOT going to do anything more to the house so maybe they should look someplace else...

He was true to his word...did nothing more to the house...and the couple came back and bought it...

Those people sound like scam artists...playing games with your aunt...probably go home and laugh at her for jumping through hoops to appease them....

I wouldn't do another thing...she has done too much...if the person wants the place she will come back and buy it...
