Mitered corners....sigh

I am trying to add mitered corners to a blanket...I have viewed probably 6 different u-tube videos and read several different sewing instructions on how to make the perfect corner. I just cannot get it thru my brain, I know what it should look like and I understand the directions, I just cannot do it, I am so frustrated.

If there is anyone that sews a lot that can give me a great website to visit or give me instructions for dummies, I would really appreciate it.

I am a quilter and I was so happy when I learned to do mitered bindings on my quilts. I use this technique, here is the video link. There is a bit of chit chat in the beginning, but it is really a simple technique and I think it would work well for your blanket.

Thank you for the link, I did view it... I have not quiled in years and now I know why...when I get frustrated and stuck I just want to quit!

My binding is the pre made wide satin blanket binding so I am only zig-zagging the non folded edge to the blanket, a little different than the video. It should be an easy project...right now the blanket is sewn on one side..I am at the corner and stuck, I am so irked that the fabric is still in the machine, I just had to walk away.

Like you, I've watched a lot of demos, but never done it.

The baby blankets I make for Project Linus are fleece, and I thought I would add the satin binding, but.....just too much aggravation for me.

I ended up sewing two layers of fleece together, then snipping them every inch to give the appearance of "fringe." I tried the tied ones and didn't care for the finish on smaller blankets, so I devised this method and everyone seems to love them

I realize that doesn't solve your problem, but you did the right thing in walking away for awhile. When I get frustrated sewing, I just let it sit for an hour or a day and come back to it. Otherwise, I end up ripping out and that's no fun.

Because people have different teaching styles, I thought I'd add the following for you. This woman's business IS teaching people various sewing and quilting techniques, so she's right up your alley. She had a 30 minute program on many PBS channels.

@sfnative I can't sew a stitch but I could watch this woman all day . . . she is fabulous!

That's the technique I use when I bind my quilts! Binding is my favorite part of the entire process, not because it means it's finished, I just love hand stitching the binding down.

Now if I could only find someone that would cut it all out for me - my least favorite part.
