I think one thing I do is to keep and use the wire racks. When a dish comes out of the oven it goes right into the wire rack so it doesn't get set onto a cold countertop. Esp granite or quartz are very cool to the touch - it only makes sense that a hot dish setting down on a cold counter will crack. I also store them in their wire racks so air gets all around them and the unglazed portions get throughly dry before used again. There is a reason she includes those wire racks! So many posters say they throw those away.

I have had my temptations for about 7 years and they seem to be falling apart (eg: handles falling off, random chipping, cracks...)

What is the average shelf life for these products?

When we moved to Fl 6 years ago I bought new china - black and white. I bought a set of TT in daisy pattern then in black & white to go with them. The 11 piece set. I use them almost every day as serving pieces and baking pieces. Put them in the dishwasher on the top rack and they are still in perfect condition. I am not saying that anyone else's have not done all the bad things people here claim have happened - just relating my personal experience.

I do find it pretty ridiculous to compare TT to polish stoneware or fiesta ware or corning ware as those products are way more expensive.

I also have the seashell set that I use often and same experience - very good.I got that set as a housewarming gift so it is also 6 years old.

It is a combination of luck and use and care. Some sets of Temp-tations are much thicker, better glazed than others, and are just going to hold up longer.

How often and how hard you use them will help determine their longevity as well. We all know people who take every precaution with their belongings, and they look like new decades later. Others use (some abuse) their things heavily, and they show the wear.

Some things that can help to shorten the life of stoneware are getting it too wet by soaking it (and I think dishwashers put way too much water on the unglazed portion of stoneware, which will absorb it and lead to crazing and cracking), putting it in the oven too soon again after it has been too wet, putting a cold (or even room temp) dish in a pre heated oven (thermal shock, that might not break or crack it immediately, but can weaken the stoneware or the glaze and cause problems later).

I have some TT that is probably seven years old. I also have old Corning Ware bakers and some others. I haven't had trouble with TT so far but I always put the dish in when I turn on the oven so they both heat at the same time. I did buy my daughter a 9x13 TT baker and she used hers for about a year and it cracked in the oven and made a big mess so she doesn't want anymore of this brand. I don't buy it now but mostly because I have enough already. It sure is pretty though.

I've only had mine a few months and I love them. I bought the set of three round bakers with a glass lid. They are so pretty and everything I cook in them or carry in them looks nicer.

I put them into the oven straight from the fridge and so far, no problems, but I've been warned here many times, so I always use a cookie sheet underneath. I don't want to learn my lesson the hard way.

I'm thinking of the Cost Per Use and so far, I've gotten my money's worth from them.

I have had my set for right at a year, and they are full of cracks that have turned grey and gross looking. Now I read online that people have had this issue with the bakers and that some even explode in their oven. Now I am afraid to use my set for its intended purpose and that is to cook in them. I can't bake in them because they are actually not naturally non stick as claimed. When I asked on their chat page, I was told you need to use non stick spray or whatever the recipe calls for to keep it from sticking. Well it still sticks. What is going on. One of my dishes has a huge chip in the handle from a tap against another dish.......WHAT IS HAPPENING. I expected so much more. Someone please explain this to me

I have the oblong baker set and I have noticed the large oblong baker has been discoloring for awhile now. Now I noticed there is a big crack in the bottom that looks like it is going all the way through. This is the one I use the most, but I never use it about 375 degrees. I have never put it in the dishwasher, refrigerator or freezer and always keep it in the rack. After reading all these I am afraid to use it. I have had it a few years now and I absolutely love temptations. I disagree that we are lucky to have gotten a few years out of them because I had some cheap bakers from k mart that I got rid of when I got my temptations and they never did this. Had them for several years. I am so disappointed in the product. I think Tara should respond and let people know they do not last as long as they should.

Customer must pay $10 shipping fee to get the defective piece replaced after the 30 day return period has passed, which in many cases, is more money than the piece cost originally when purchased in a set.

If you buy from their web site, the return gets even more complicated, and they don't recognize many things as defects.

It is best to buy from Q, where you have 30 days to return if defective or damaged, no questions asked.
