It is beautiful. I just bought a set of Johnson Brother's Cottage and the matching teapot. I've been lusting after it for years, and just decided to pull the plug and got it on sale at JCPenny. The good stuff will last forever and always be beautiful. Yours certainly is! Congrats on shopping in your own closet!

I'm posting this here because I think someone may be into antiques or know about this set. I had a very close and dear friend who passed away suddenly in June. I had gone to his home (he was 84) and one day he gave me these. I completely forgot about them until I was getting something out of my storage closet and saw this box. This is what was in it: I don't know why its SIDEWAYS although I took the pic horizontally!!!

Stamping on bottom of cups: BARUETHY (I think) GERMANY, US-ZONE, each piece is numbered and engraved in the mold is another #.

I looked on EBAY and saw these sets, yet, I've never done EBAY so I'm not sure what to look for. Of course, I'm curious now and will seek out a antique dealer because I did some research and it appears these were manufactured and stamped US-Zone so the soldiers could bring them back after WWII. (I think that's what it said).

Any help or info you can give me I would certainly appreciate! Thanks!

It appears this china was made in Germany. If you google "bareuther china made in bavaria germany" you should be able to determine the pattern and perhaps learn what year(s) it was made. That will be a start for your search.

I have a 12 piece set of Noritake china with a lot of additional pieces that was handed down several generations in my husband's family. I was able to trace the pattern and dates it was made. I also found I could still purchase replacement pieces if needed.

Clangle is correct that Bayreuth is the only name that comes close. Bayreuth is a town in Bavaria region of Germany. When I lived in Germany on the other side of Nuremburg, there were little stores with this porcelain ware, the kitchen type stores. We made many trips up to the area around Bayreuth for all the crystal they made and there were several china factories. I always wonder if Waterford bought out some of these factories, since some of their glassware like Marquis is made in Germany. I loved this area of Germany with all its factories.

Thank you everyone. I took to local antique dealer today he was ok not that knowledgeable (just my thought) he told me the set was early 40s and most likely brought back by a soldier in WWII.

He offered me $150 for the set. Honestly, I think it maybe worth more because he immediately asked me if I wanted to sell before I even heard what he had to say.

I have no intention of selling it just wanted the history of it! Thanks again everyone!
