Just asking, what color lights do you prefer?

I like - white, for the roofline.

         - white, for the front entry.

         - green, for the large trees.

I have a tall narrow blue spruce at the front corner of my house that I wrap with clear icicle lights. I also put a wreath on my front lamp post and wrap the post with red ribbon then with clear lights wrapping the post and wreath.

I have small stake trees on either side of the garage that are red and white lights, the front door wreath is red and white lights as well. I have the red plough & hearth sleigh that I put presents around and a small potted tree in with red & white lights. This year I added the Santa's Best wire tree, have to decide on the color - maybe I change it daily!

OK, well, I posted how I use lights outside but didn't specifically say what color I like. Obviously I like red and white, but really I just prefer more than simply clear/white lights. I don't think white lights alone is festive enough unless you have really spectacular architecture and landscaping. So, for me, adding in a color like red gives it pop.

Since childhood I always loved blue lights and I remember when Elvis decorated in blue lights for his daughter Lisa Marie. I thought what a cool Dad, wish he was mine. Lol anyway, through the years I always requested just blue. I would get blue but always mixed with other colors. Last year I bought a BLUE bliss light and I was guaranteed to have my blue lights. Since then I've purchased two more and two clear. This year again I will have my blue lights with white.

We never have done outside lights, it is just something I've never wanted to tackle. Unless you consider the candles in the windows, then no outside lights at our house.

I like to see all kinds, though, at other's homes.

I love a large scale, all white light display, and love the colored lights as well.

There is a place near here that has a lot of the old blow mold light up pieces (those figural plastic light up pieces from the 1950's and 1960's), choir children, Santa and sleigh with reindeer, candles, and more. Those vintage plastic pieces really take me back to my childhood, and I love to look at their display.

Our HOA requires that we only use lights that are either battery or solar pwered s there are no cords trailing across the yards to be plugged in. The landscapers could cut those cords or be tripped by them. So, all of our lights are solar powered and are on timers. they go on at 5PM and off at 11PM automatically if we are here or not.

My DH and I both like multi-colored outdoor lights, but as long as the overall look is nice, I enjoy all Christmas lights. I once saw a lawn where every tree had a different color of solid lights on them and I thought that was so cool. I just don't have enough pine trees in my yard to try that look.

There are two homes in our city owned by brothers (both doctors). They live a couple of houses apart in large Victorian homes. Every year their homes are show stoppers. I mean it stops traffic even at rush hour at Christmas. They are done by contractors I believe and they are breathtakingly beautiful. They collect money for donation to The Salvation Army. I look forward to seeing these homes every year. There is Santa, his sleigh and Reindeer reaching into the sky (attached to the house on one side and a huge tree on the other so it looks suspended.

There is a choir of angels up and down the peak of one of the houses, candles, manger scenes, just gorgeous. A visual feast! LM

PS, we do three sets of Bliss lights on the house and a huge manger scene with straw bales and concrete figures and a lighted star close to the street.

We were at Costco today and I purchased two boxes of outdoor lights for under $10 each. There are 100 lights in each set. Why I was so excited about these (other than the price and that they are LED) is that they can be all white, all colored, or phasing in and out between white and color. So awesome because I like to have white lights around my deck all year and with these I can change to color for Christmas or another holiday without putting addtional lights up. I will put these up on Thanksgiving weekend and if they prove to be as good as I hope, I will return to Costco and buy a couple more sets as backup.
