Some of us at my sewing club are starting a new project. they are called a microwave cozy. It is like a bowl shaped potholder - you put the bowl inside and when it's time to get it out of the Microwave the cozy is not hot so you just lift it out. They would make great small Christmas gifts for those who enjoy sewing to give. Not at all expensive to make. You can check them out at Hobby Lobby.

These sound very useful, and are certainly something new and different. There's a craft/sewing group in my church - some, but not all, senior citizens. I think they would love to try these. Suspect they are padded/quilted to resist heat. And could they be knitted out of washable yarn?

Thanks for a great idea. I'm passing it on.

It's just my opinion but I would use 100% cotton fabric and 100% cotton batting.

I'd be afraid of noxious fumes from polyester.....

Yes, the directions tell you exactly what to buy for the quilt lining and it is 100% cotton.

As long as the yarn you use is cotton or wool like you would for pot holders. Synthetic fibers would melt! The fabric would be 100% cotton and cotton batting to boot.

The cooking buddy that Q sells is great for removing things from the microwave (and the stove top and the oven). I love it because I don't need hot pads, oven mitts or a host of several different things. One thing, all applications.

And I've never been a fan of putting cloth in the microwave. I've seen those bags that people put potatoes in to bake them, as well as some heating type pads that can go in, but it just doesn't seem safe to me.
