I am more of a traditional/classic style decorator. I love color, but not too much where it over powers a room, but enough so that it isn't drab either, and I love homey touches, rugs, pillows,candles,etc......

A friend here at camp and I wer chatting last night. She asked me how I had my home decorated. I said it was very beach casual. She was surprised saying she thought i would have a more formal home. I said no i was a swimsuit and flip flops type decorator and she said she was more of a cocktail dress and high heels decorator. Then another friend said hers was more 50's chic.We all understood each other perfectly , but the guys were looking at us like we had 3 heads. I told them it would be best if they just talked among themselves. Can you relate your decor to a fashion style?

Like you, 151949, I live in Florida, so furniture and colors are light. My furniture here is lighter and less formal than when we lived in the North. One thing I have always done is buy a painting or piece of art by a local artist when I travel. I like art that reminds me of places I have been. For example, I am looking at a beautiful painting of Waikiki Beach that I bought on Oahu.

Oddly here at our summer camp the decor is much more sunday go to church style. Though I got to make a few choices the campers really do come to you already decorated. And, it is odd to me, they really try to make them very much formal vs the casual style that would suit where they are and what you use them for.

If I was going to decorate a camper from scratch - I'd use all denim fabrics and cottage style cabinets etc with shutters on the windows.Everything as simple as can be.

This would work for me if I lived when the BORGIA'S did. My home is old world, Italian and French. Wish I had darker woods, but I inherited lighter wood furniture. So my home looks like something Lucretia Borgia would wear, with clothes from some French Country cooks, thrown in. My home is Ballard Designs meet Horchow.
