World Market

Has anyone been to a World Market store? There is one around 1.5 hour drive from me and I am thinking of checking it out. I looked on the website and they have some cute, unusual things.

I thought I would give myself a break today since I have been working in the yard for four full days!

I pressure washed, cleaned out and mulched all of my backyard plant beds, and painted all of my border concrete blocks. My fingers need a rest so retail therapy might be the solution!

Maybe they have some nice garden things for my fixed up beds!

I went to a World Market when I visited family in VA - definitely a fun place to shop. Very unique items! I hope they come to NJ soon - there's a storefront north of my area, but it always seems to be closed when I'm in that area. I'm not sure it's even open yet!

We have a World Market store. I like it but hardly ever go there. If that's the only place you want to go on this trip I don't think it's worth a 1.5 hour drive.

I shop there often. They have really decent prices on their herbs/spices as well as coconut oil too. Lots of seasonal foods and decor and tons of wines!! Would be worth it to go.

It's an interesting store for sure. I love the various food items they have. By food items, I mean, sweets, jarred olives, tampanades, teas, coffees, cookies, snack items, wines and odds and ends. As far as their furniture, plates and things...prices are fairly high. You must check out the sale items. My SIL bought her dining table and benches from them but she has an SUV and was able to transport the furniture.

I have two World Markets not far from my home so, I browse often. Would I drive an hour and a half...there would have to be more stores in the mall for me to make the trip. We have a BB&B, Bealls Outlet, Marshalls, Dillards, Penney's and a Target as well as a Harkins Movie Theater in both malls.

I live in Seattle and on my last trip to Bed Bath & Beyond, there were many world market things in there. The clerk told me that BB&B bought out World Market, even though there are still World Market stores.

I shop at World Market alot. Right now, they have some adorable things for Easter. They carry alot of European things, especially cute Easter candy from Germany. Nice teas too. They do offer discount coupons also. I have bought some kitchen chairs there , about 10 years ago and I'm still using them each and every day and they look as good as the day that I bought them.

One opened nearby recently. I was in 2 or 3 times and didn't buy a thing. They have lots of decorator and gift items but I thought they were kind of pricey. I'd never drive 1.5 hours to a store...any store.

I have been to a World Market here in Florida... it's different. It is not such a long drive, at 1-1/2 hours away, go for it!

I am very close to one of their stores but never go in. I don't like all that imported junk. So much of it is cheaply made.

That's interesting, Poppinfresh, to hear that BB&B bought World Market. We still have both brands here. I, too, find World Market to be overpriced for the quality. Items there used to be more at the discounted level of HomeGoods, but at some point that changed.

World Market otherwise known as "Cost Plus" or "Cost+" is a retailer I've been shopping at since the 60s.

They're known for importing a variety of goods from around the world. I don't quite agree with Kachina, as I have purchased a lot of plates, bowls, glasses, mugs, tea, a few posters years ago (they still have them), a swinging chair, a distressed chest (for the look), frames, candles, Christmas wrap, Christmas candles, Christmas ribbon, Christmas candy and stocking stuffers, art glass and the list goes on.

I'm a very picky shopper. My taste tends to Nordstrom/Neiman Marcus/Soft Surroundings, etc., so when I make a purchase of anything, it's got to look good, be of sound construction, something I simply have to have or a traditional purchase (such as the annual visit to World Market right before Christmas).

If you have traditional American decor in your home, then skip it. If you're eclectic in your tastes or open to something different, then go for it. Look at it as an adventure trip and don't expect anything out of it, otherwise you might be disappointed.

(The last purchase I made there was about 8 months ago. I noticed their ad in the Sunday paper and they had hand fired and "pulled" low profile glass bowls. Well, I simply LOVE any kind of glass that qualifies as art glass and this bowl just struck a note with me. It was $19.97 and a bargain at that. I could never find a bowl at that price point anywhere else, so I was one happy camper!)

I find that interesting too! - when I was posting earlier I was thinking that World Market seems like a more 'international version' of Christmas Tree Shoppes. And BB&B owns Christmas Tree Shoppes!

I agree with this. They have a wonderful selection of electric jewelry, soaps, gift items, and wonderful imported foods and drinks. It's a great place for chocolate, tea, wine, and other things. I've been going there since I was a kid and still make it a stop every year before Christmas. They also have really cute patio furniture.

I was just in Home Goods today. They have some really nice things right now. I wasn't able to shop very long today but can't wait to go back. World Market doesn't do much for me either. They have so cute things in their flyer but every time I go in there it's just meh...

When I lived in CA, I used to drive up to the original one in North Beach (SF), and fill the trunk of my car with "goodies"......... The "new" ones are nothing like that.

I loved it when it was Cost Plus, especially for inexpensive but unusual party goods, but I don't find the same value now.

It's not a store I head to, unless I'm going to another store in the same strip mall. I find it expensive and sometimes the quality is not there. I've had better luck with the food end of the store. I wouldn't drive 1.5 hours to go there.

I would not drive 2 hours for it, unless I saw the ad and saw something I really wanted, but it is a fun store.
