Is it the water? It happens over and over. Even after I bleach them it will occur again.

Sounds like iron to me. We have a water softener, a separate tank iron filter, and a sediment filter for this. I live near a city with "Iron" in the name, so what could we expect?

Hi Ladies--So interested to see this post today. My husband just bought a bunch of white tees and was washing them before wearing. Brand new out of the package. When they were dry and folded we both realized that all of them had a slightly pinkish hue. I looked in washer to make sure there wasn't a hidden red or pink item. Nope. :-0

I am not sure but I think you can purchase a water tester at a hardware type store. That should help cut down the cost.

Toss a sheet of Color Grabber in your loads of wash. It keeps whites very bright.

That happened to my mother when they moved to a rural area and had their own well. Minerals in the water.

It was tested and perfectly safe to drink ... but messed up her whites. Eventually put a filter in but didn't help much.

I did not know this problem even existed, you learn something new everyday. This is something to remember if I ever relocate that some homes have this problem with the water.

In the past when checking the labels on new white clothing, I have noticed that some read to not use chlorine bleach. When I ignored the warning and used chlorine bleach on them, the bleach caused the clothing to turn a pale pink color which disappeared when the clothing was washed again w/o bleach.

I totally agree the issue is coming from minerals in your water that are not mixing well with your detergent, bleach, etc. Prior to our hooking onto public water, we had the worst iron water problem ever. The high levels of iron in our well water killed an expensive filter system within a few short years, it stained the fixtures in our house, was hard on our water heating elements, and made it impossible for us to wash white clothing here. I took all our white items to the laundry mat for 15 years, which was very difficult when my babies were first born. This does not sound like an iron problem at all.

Another thing to think about is whether your machine is for sure pumping out all of the water from the last washing.

Sometimes small residuals of water is left in the tub. You don't notice it and can't feel it but it might be there.

Just a thought. You might make sure all of the water has been removed.

Does your washer have a stainless steel drum? If not, the enamel may have a tiny chip or crack that has rusted and is coloring the whites.

I use hot water for my towels. My washer is only a year old.
