Royal Albert - Old Country Roses

I am slated to receive this china from a relative who has passed on. It's nice but not quite my style or.......maybe I don't know how to use this style. Any suggestions?

Use it with love. Think about when you use it. A wonderful light supper with a loved one. Lunch on a sunny day! A day where you decide to dress up for no reason. I think finger sandwiches would look wonderful on it.

Have a tea party with good friends.

That's good advice, LoriMi. OCR happens to be one of the most enduring and best-loved patterns of all time. I happen to think it's beautiful (actually it's my "good" china pattern), but if it's not your taste, it's not your taste.

Thanks Lori - good suggestions. I have Lenox ""Solitaire"" which is more me. Simple but elegant. This pattern is very different to me.

Old Country Roses is a pattern that I'd love to have. I think it is beautiful.

Love Roses, set the table with linens and crystal and have the most romantic dinner. It could lead to a whole lot more!

Years ago, just before CVN was acquired by QVC, they had a close-out sale on this pattern and I bought the entire set. Best deal I ever got!

You could always set your dining room table (which in my house we use less and less) and display this beautiful china. I leave mine up for several months before changing out, especially for Thanksgiving and Christmas. It looks beautiful in my dining room. Enjoy!!

It's a very popular pattern. It's not my style, so I'd funk it up a bit by mixing it with some contemporary pieces and interesting linen choices. However, if it's your thing you could do a very classic table.

Good suggestion. I will also inherit the charger plates as well.

Hi Love Roses,

If you really love roses you will truly love these items.

I have this burgundy, yellow, pink OCR pattern which I began collecting many years, and I also have the identical pattern in the blue tone which is called Moonlight Roses.

Since they are both floral, they are vibrant, beautiful, and either pattern mixes quite well with white, or any of the colors in the floral designs.

I have service for 16 in each pattern along with a great number of completer pieces which have been collected by myself, and my beloved Mother.

I entertained a lot through 45 years of my first marriage, and still entertain in large numbers of guests now.

I have other Lenox and Noritake bone China too, but Royal Albert/Royal Doulton are amongst my absolute favorites.

You will definitely come to love those OCR items and if they are made in England as mine are they are worth more than the items manufactured elsewhere.

We used to save then for Company, but for years decided to use them for ourselves as well.

This is my wedding china.

I loved it when I was 16, and I still love it at 56. I was fortunate to receive 12 place settings for my wedding shower, and have collected pieces over the years.

Oh, my, this brings back memories. I do hope you're able to enjoy it, as one poster indicated, and enjoy it with love and fond memories.

Back around 1968 I met the woman who was to become my step-mother. She was so wonderful, British, had a career in fashion design and loved my Dad dearly. So...perhaps a few years later, when I had my first full time job, I save up and purchased her the Old Country Roses pattern: 4 cups, 4 saucers, a tea pot, sugar and creamer. I was very proud of my purchase, but didn't realize until years later that I had made a silly and rather expensive purchase mistake for her. She couldn't stand the stuff, so we had a nice laugh about it years later and I asked if I could give it to my daughter when she established her own household and my step-mother was thrilled.

It didn't stop there. My step-mother also left me her family silver service from the 19th century, which is simply gorgeous, and will also be passed along to my daughter. When all is said and done, my daughter will have 4 silver services, none of which are contemporary, along with the "Rose" set and my rather large collection of tea cups, amongst other loves in my life.

I like to mix and match china when I'm setting a table. While OCR is not my style, I could see using the charger plates with simpler dinner plates or setting up a dessert or tea service with the salad or bread plates and cups and saucers. I actually like some of the pieces in New Country Roses, but they are more cottagey and I'm not sure how they mix with Old Country Roses.

I adore the Country Roses pattern and have a complete set. I remember Kathy Levine selling it on the 'Q' with a rep from England and that was my start.

The original OCR are more ornate, and the newer pieces are less ornate, but also very pretty.

I have a few of those too and they can be used with the orate OCR if preferred since they do blend, but I also have the others which are also dishwasher and microwaveable safe, since they do not have the gold trim in them at all.
