getting a spaghetti sauce stain out of a new t shirt

Tues we had spaghetti for dinner and DH made me laugh so hard i choked and spit out spaghetti sauce all down the front of a new and very much liked t shirt. My DH always claims he can get any stain out so I gave it to him yesterday to do his magic. First - spray with Shout and wash in tide and cold water - red came out but there were still oily marks - next wash with Dawn dish soap in cold water - still there - then spray with Awesome and wash in very very hot water . DH was nervous to use awesome as he thought it may take the dye out where he sprayed it but it was not wearable as it was so I felt I had nothing to lose. Washed it and hung it to dry last night - this morning it is perfectly clean. That Awesome is certainly properly named. And it is only $1 - you buy it at the Dollar store. Best stuff ever!!!!! And best stain fighting hubby ever as well.

One of my DH's tips for stain removal is - only use heat as a last resort because if it does not get the stain out it will set it permanently. So until you get to the point of "I have nothing to lose" he does not use hot water or dry in the dryer. However, sometimes with grease or oils only really hot water will break it up. He actually washed it the final time in boiling water, using the huge silicone gloves that came with our Ron Popiel rotisserie.

That's why I normally don't wear my good clothes around the house, I am always dropping food on myself, DH says I need a bib, LOL!

If it is white, and you haven't dried in the dryer, use Clorox gel on it, it is great stuff!

My secret for removing just about any stain from non-bleachable items (including washable silk) is dabbing each spot with a drop of Goof-Off (in the can, not plastic container) and then spraying the area with Spray-n-Wash. Let it set a few minutes and wash in cold water. You may have to repeat with tomato and chocolate stains.

This also works great on already set oil and grease stains.

So funny, Hooty, I am the same way. I look like h--l around the house, lol, as all of my "house" clothes are stained. I am a messy cook, so only can wear something I don't care about.

I had a sauce incident about a month ago while wearing a really cute, brand-new sweater. Of COURSE it was in a lighter color, something I don't seem to own too much of, and of course it stained! I'm getting ideas here, ladies. I've washed and soaked and sprayed. And it *still* has a slight discoloration in certain spots. It's currently folded and staring at me from the laundry room.

Oh my gosh, you sound like me! I have ruined so many clothes that I rarely wear anything nice when I'm home.

The best pre-wash stain remover I've found is full strength Clorox II stain remover/color booster straight from the bottle! I squirt some on the stained area, rub it into the fabric with an old toothbrush (I keep a couple of toothbrushes by my washing maching just for this purpose), let it set a few minutes, and then wash as usual. This has a good chance of working even for grease spots and stains that are missed and that have gone through the washer and dryer.

Thanks - I am always spilling something on my shirt. I will go to the Dollar Store today. It is always good to have something like that on hand. I figure if I have numerous stain removers on hand - something is bound to work.

I just hope they have Awesome.

Your post reminded me that my hairdresser once splattered some hair color on one of the legs of my jeans while she was doing my hair and she sprayed the splatters with hair spray claiming it would keep the stain from setting. By darned when I washed them it all came out. I had mentioned it to a friend who said she'd been doing that for years with her sons baseball uniforms with grass stains. I haven't tried that on anything else since then, cause I had forgotten about it till I read your post and it jogged my memory. Anyway, I find Zout to be great for almost any stain, I find it at the grocery store with all the other laundry stain removers.

I always wear an apron when I cook and usually still have it on when I eat.

I went to the Dollar Store. There were several Awesome products - I was surprised with the selection. I bought the Awesome Pre-Wash. I have at least 4 loads of wash to do today - so I will give it a try.

Simple Green has never failed to remove any stain I've had attack me. About $5 at Walmart and I'm good to go. I will try the Awesome, though. Just b/c I like trying new things!!

HAPPY HOUSEWIFE! - You made me one happy person. I just checked out the load of wash I did. I treated one garment that had a stain from when I made dinner a few days ago. I could not believe it. The AWESOME completely got the stain out! As soon as I sprayed it on you could see the stain lifting.

I can not wait to use it on more items. I am thrilled with the results of Awesome. I have tried numerous stain removers and have been disappointed in a few . I have tried the Tide Satin pacs and put the pac right on the stain, only to take the garment out of the washer to have the same exact stain still on the garment.

Thanks for passing on your results with Awesome. I think I will go back to the Dollar Store to buy another for a backup. It is too good not to have it on hand.

Glad the stain finally came out! I've found ASTONISH bar works miracles: I used it on an old sweat shirt DH just had to have when we emptied out a relative's home. The navy shirt had many serious stains which had gone through the washer and dryer many times. I simply wet and rubbed the bar several times over each stain and sprayed with Shout. Washed normally (warm water ) and dried. All but one stain came out. After the second treatment, the resistant stain was gone. Ordered ASTONISH on Amazon and got several bars because my friends and niece had used up the original chunks I had given them. I think the bars come from England. Well worth the cost since you only have to go through one wash cycle. HTH
