I prefer temperate weather and don't mind the overcast skies. It's a good thing, since I've lived in Seattle since 1967. I'm thoroughly spoiled by winters in the 40F range. I've lived in Alaska (Fairbanks). It's gorgeous, worth taking a cruise up there in the summer, but no thanks to the winters.

The thread about Seattle got me thinking -- I actually enjoy overcast skies and rainy, drizzly weather -- in fact love any cloudy days and any sort of precipitation.

Love those 95-degree summer days too -- at least, a few of them -- but on overcast days and those with soft precip I feel so much more grounded. They don't depress me at all and in fact as an ecology buff I get annoyed with people who have a knee-jerk "oh no! reaction to rain.

I mean, look at it this way: Sun is drying, hot, causes cancer, causes a lot of glare which makes it difficult to see/drive/do outdoor chores, etc.

Rain is cleansing, life-giving, makes things green and moist; helps the birds and wildlife, helps crops and lawns and gardens -- and the grey skies are much easier on the eyes for driving, weed-pulling and other outside tasks.

Not to mention that when it rains outdoors, our indoor spaces feel so much more cozy and welcoming and pleasant.

Does anyone but me long for and enjoy the rainy and cloudy days?

I'm not sure I long for them, but a part of me does enjoy them, as long as they do not go on forever and ever. I like the....excuse.....to veg out inside, maybe by the fire, with a beverage of choice, depending on the time of day, a magazine and the tv remote.

I have always preferred rainy, misty, cool, cloudy weather. I also love fog. When I was growing up, my dad liked the mountains, and we often stayed in cabins. I like to cook, and clean house on days that are cloudy.

I never thought I liked the grey wet days, but last spring after a couple of hot, sunny days it was raining when I woke up and I remember thinking "thank goodness that is over, it was far too exuberant for me". So I guess I do like the lack of sun.

I like a rainy day now and then, especially in summer. But a string of grey days in winter - like we've had for the past week here (in PA) - are hard to take. The days are short as it is, and the grey, dark weather make me wonder what it must be like to live way up north, where daylight hours in winter are practically non-existent.

I enjoy cool, dreary days. It's more comfortable for walking, walking the dog. We've had a long hot summer and miserable drought conditions, so when it's cooler, it's easier on the stressed shrubs and trees.

I love a dark, rainy day or two once in a while.......particularly if I'm free to snuggle indoors warm and dry and spend the time reading, cooking, or taking a nap with my window open to hear the soothing sound of falling rain and smell the fresh "rain smell".

I wouldn't want a lot of rainy days, though.

I like bright cloudy days for photography (that soft light is wonderful for capturing flowers).

I like the rain (but not the wind) because I can pull on my rain hat and walk through the trees and around the lakes of the state park nearby without anyone else being there.

I love being the last person to set foot in the woods in the early evening. I relish being the last soul there as the sun sets on that day in history. It makes it feel like the woods belong to me for that one night, and no-one else. In the morning, all the dog walkers can come but that night, it's mine. The rain makes this much easier to accomplish!

I feel the way you do OP. Rain is a good thing. Not of course, rains which cause flooding and mudslides.

I love hearing rain as I sleep. I guess a perfect scenario is for it to rain every night and we wake up to nice drenched shrubs and plants. Good for the farmers, too.

Our entire cottage is painted a light lemon-y cream color except for our bedroom. It looks bright and sunny even when it's pouring outside. Little lamps in the corners of rooms also give it a cheery feel during the day.

When there is extreme drought situations and the weather man ignores that and feels he's doing us a favor by saying we're in for another beautiful sunny day....I just want to scream.

We need rain, just as much as we need sun!
