Humidifier question

Does a humidifier really work health-wise? Does it hurt your wood furniture? I have some antique pieces that I don't want to damage from excessive water. I also have a very tiny bedroom so it would be near a closet - is that an issue for the clothes? Is it okay to put on carpet? Sorry for so many questions but I don't want to make the investment if it is going to cost me in the long run. Many thanks in advance!

I have one on my main floor and one upstairs. Both are on small wooden tables, and I haven't had any problems with either. You just need to make sure there is enough clearance above it (no artwork directly above it) and you'll be fine.

I was traveling for work last winter for 3 months. I was in the north and it was cold and dry. Had one shipped there and bloody noses stopped the first night. I've been using it ever since. Mine is the air innovations with the remote and I have it sitting directly on my floor with no issues. The key is to use distilled water and you'll have no white dust and no gunk in the tank. The humidistat is set to 55 and a full tank lasts me about a week. Highly recommended!

Yes they work for a variety of things. Make sure you get the right size for your room. Keeping your nasal passages moist will reduce your chances of getting sick, keeping your skin moist will make you more comfortable.

Buy a humidity thermometer (I bought one for about $8 at Home Depot) to make sure you have enough humidity otherwise you're just burning electricity and wasting distilled water.

A humidifier is very beneficial to wood furniture. Winter heat in the house dries out the wood and the glue in the joints, so it needs some humidity to keep everything from drying out. If you live in a dry climate as I do, it's especially important.

OMG - your antiques need the moisture more than you're newer items!!!!!!! Glue in furniture dries out during the winter months from lack of moisture and starts to fall apart - your skin and hair needs moisture when the furnace is on for 6 months of the year - everything needs moisture. I'm on the computer at this hour of the day only because I wanted to order another table top/or floor model humidifier.

Rush to buy - don't hesitate any longer!

Czechers, did you purchase V32216? I was reading some of the reviews and people liked it but it did not last long. How long have you had yours and is it still working well? Thanks.

I received V32216 for Christmas last year, and mine still works perfectly. It keeps my nose from drying out and my skin from getting flaky. If I forget to turn it on before going to sleep, I can definitely tell the next day, because I wake up dried out. I think it's a good investment for the winter.

Been using the Air Innovations for the last year -- even through the summer months. No bloody nostrils, no dry eyes or skin. Use well water that has gone through the softener. If I'm away for the weekend, I empty and drain the top and bottom. Have one at the mountain home too. HTH
