You're Home with Jill and LR Christmas Shows Popularity

I enjoy both of these shows more than I enjoy all of the other home product shows on QVC. I was thinking about what it is about these shows compared to the others that I like and honestly it is because there are no vendors on the shows or they are on very rarely. These shows move along quickly from one item to the next and there isn't a lot of wasted time. They just flow so much better and the focus is all on the products and I also think we get to see more items in these shows as a result.

I do also like the Valerie Parr Hill shows too as she is such a nice person and easy to watch. I'm not totally opposed to having vendors on (like Valerie's show) but I think more often than not for certain types of shows, the vendors aren't needed. JMO.

Does anyone else feel the same?

ITA!! I see no reason QVC thinks there needs to be vendors for EVERY item being presented.

I'm with you. A QVC host who knows their products trumps some of those vendors. I missed LR's shows because they usually are on Friday when I don't watch, but I really liked Jill's shows.

I too agree. I could watch these shows every day if they had new items each day and I wouldn't be bored.

I agree about not needing the vendors for every product. That is the way it was when I first started watching QVC. There were a lot fewer guests on the shows back then. Other reasons that I enjoy these shows are that no one is talking over anyone and competing for air time and the demeanor of the host is much more relaxed and unhurried. Even though they do seem to move from product to product more quickly, there is still a relaxing atmosphere. I wish all of the shows were presented in this manner. The hosts do present themselves in a more VPH manner.

I hadn't thought of it before, but you are right. There is more time spent on the products and less time having to introduce each different vendor, then exchanging the hugs, the formalities and such. They flow from one product to another, you don't have to listen to the "canned" and scripted speeches about the product that you could now recite in your sleep, you've heard it so many times.

I wouldn't like them to do away with vendors entirely, but a little less would be a good thing.

I agree - the hosts generally do well all by themselves. Sometimes when the vendor is some famous designer like Bob Mackie or Mark Zunino then the viewers like to see them and get to know them a little. But otherwise - unless there is something technical for them to explain - the hosts do better by themselves.

You have to realize Jill and Lisa are both "seasoned" hosts and they can carry their own shows, but other than that, I cannot think of any other female hosts that could! Some cannot even get things right with the card right in their face, LOL!

ITA on this point. Also, besides being skilled hosts who can move fairly seamlessly from one product to the next, they both focus on the products. While they do talk about their lives in ways that may tie in with the product or are appropriate, they do not spend the majority of the time talking about their families or themselves while glossing over or completely ignoring the product, the way some hosts do.

I agree the presence of vendors is way overdone and that many of them add very little to the presentations... I do think, though, there are other 'seasoned' hosts who could do quite well without so many vendors...

I'm not a fan of Jill's so while I do strongly agree that she's more tolerable left to her own devices than she typically is when paired with vendors, I don't tend to enjoy her shows so much because, well, frankly, of her... Moreover, the merchandise often included in her home shows seems rather pedestrian, uninteresting and often repetitious... Lisa's shows are more fun, for me anyway, not only because I prefer her as a host and she's typically turned out nicely, but also at least in part because the sets are so often lovely, the merchandise often is at least a bit different from the same old stuff, and she brings a level of enthusiasm that seems at least somewhat genuine...

Very good points! I rarely watch QVC but I do stay with these shows longer than most others, which I usually click away from rather quickly once I see what's on. I never thought about the why of it, but this makes good sense. I like them walking around the set, rather than standing at one table or rack of clothes.

I like Jill's show because she is able to show the product used in multiple settings and I like her show because they items she picks to be in her show. I often buy items that are presented or have been presented in one of her shows. Her helpful hints are a bonus.

I saw Lisa's Christmas decorating show and although it was a little to over the top for my house, I liked the show. I bought one of the santa's from her show.

For me, a large drawing factor is the way the set is decorated for product(s) presentation. I just love looking at the set for LR's show. So much more interesting then having a host and product rep standing at a table talking about a product. It's sort of like looking at a fantasy home. LR's Christmas Shows will be greatly missed, by me, in the future.

I feel the same about everything you said.

Hopefully Q will continue with something similar next year to take the place of LR's decorating shows.

The YHJ set and Carolyn's decorating sets are ok, but don't have the same visual interest as VPH and LR's sets, in my opinion.

I agree! Many times I prefer the vendor and could get rid of the host. I absolutely want Isaac explaining his fabrics and prints to me. I also like some of his combinations that he puts together. Ditto for Honora - I want the guys there. I love them. Many of the items that Jill and Lisa present are of a different nature, too. They don't have a specific vendor. For example, Lisa's Christmas items and the items on Your Home with Jill are a variety of companies.

Some vendors clearly add something to the equation, but most of them don't, at least not for me. Moreover, the ones I really don't often 'get' are those that clearly are not vendors but are spokespersons, often, it seems, hired by QVC to represent a product on-air with the hosts. I mean really, more times than not, why bother!?

i think jill's decorating style is more in line with most of us - and as so it is very popular. Lisa's decorating style is more in line with decorating on steroids and a very low % of people actually decorate like she does.First of all, most American families do not have that kind of $$$$ to spend on Christmas decorations and second most people do not have the time , the talent or the formal lifestyle she does. Most homes have children in them at least some of the time - either kids or grands or nieces/nephews esp around the holidays. Jill understands that - Lisa - no. most American women work full time jobs and are just able to keep up with the necessities of keeping things reasonably clean, get meals on the table and kids to all their activities.

Personally, I prefer not to live in a home that looks and feels like a hotel - but that is just my preference.

(And, yes, I do know that all of the posters here decorate exactly like Lisa and have gorgeous perfect homes and live in perfection all the days of their lives and are so perfectly organized that it all flows like a perfect well oiled machine every day.Of course , that is in their fantasy online life not the reality.)
