Ah paperweights - my husband & I love paperweights too! And yes we do collect them, have been for years. Many of our's we've picked up while on many lovely repeat vacations to the Caribbean, Barbados specifically. We could pick them up for very little money duty free. We would always find these gems created by a European company called Caithness. We've also purchased some at wonderful local art shows here where we live.

I've had a boss many years ago give one to me as a gift b/c he knew we were collectors too.

All totaled we have 15 gorgeous paperweights. We wouldn't trade any of them, all very lovely in their own designs. It just amazes me at the total mind boggling patterns and designs so talented glass blowers can manipulate such a medium of glass to create such art work!

Obviously we truly love our collection and are always on the look out to add to our collection!

This is a new interest too that I now have. Learning about these. Beautiful and interesting. Just to make one is a lot of work!! Holy smokes.

Does anyone here collect these, or have a collection? Please share if you would like to. Love the color. So thankful I can see; I always have been, I really appreciate all the colors in the world we are given.

Thanks.

I have a small collection of some good ones.

Buying them is fraught with difficulties but can be very fun. There is a good book on collecting paperweights and it's helpful to identify them and avoid problems like dings and fakes, etc.

I like the Perthshire (Scottish) paperweights and have one or two, also Muir and I'd love to own a Clichy but they are sky-high. I think the oldest one I have is a child's paperweight from Germany that looks like a marble, but it has "millefiore" and it is cute. My husband bought me several in Seattle (modern) and one from Murano in Venice. I have them in the vitrine. It was fun because he always knew to look for them and save one up for anniversary or birthday.

I have two or three glass ones that I received as gifts. I have no idea about the manufacturers. I think the colors and patterns of hand-blown glass are so beautiful.

From what I'm reading there's a few places in Scotland where some of these started from. I do need to find out what Dichroic means. I seem to like that style if that is what that is. I don't know about Muir or Clichy, I have seen only one Caithness one so far, but as I said, I'm just now getting into all of this. It's beautiful and fascinating. Thanks to those who have posted.

I collected them for many years, and stopped because I was running out of room to display them. I have about 20 of them I think. Most of mine are older ones from Joe St. Clair , with deep etching on the glass outside and a signed design on the inside. I don't recall what the interior design pieces are made of. Beautifully done. I look at antique shops for them, and although I have come across Joe St.Clair paperweights, I have not come across ones similar to the ones I own. I also have others from Lumberg studios and Orient & Flume. And other assorted ones picked up here and there. DH and I have had a life long love affair with glass, and one of our favorite places to go is the Corning Glass Museum.

The Art Institute in Chicago has a great collection of paperweights. One of my favorite exhibits there and I always visit it. They have similar ones for sale in their gift shop. Bought one for my SIL for a Christmas present. I think paperweights are fascinating.
