Hoping you might have some great ideas about a specific storage dilemma I have all the time. Maybe I'm the only one who has it, but here goes:

I tend to be pretty organized, which to me means that everything has a place it belongs. (Even if it isn't IN its place all the time, it has one.) But I can't find a place for clothes that I've worn once, and I want to wear again before I wash them, but not necessarily in the next day or two.

My closets are on the small side, so there isn't a separate section I can set aside for this use. Besides, with the exception of some of my jackets and sweaters, I don't really want to put these things in with my clean clothes.

So I always seem to have a half a dozen shirts and pants and things sitting out or hanging on the door or something, looking messy. Sometimes they end up in the wash just so I have a place to put them. Silly! And wasteful.

What do all you clever people do with your "half clean" clothes?

Hey, dw81, that is a great idea. Duh! Why didn't I think of that? I use that kind of hangers, too. And if all the designated hangers are full, it's time to wear 'em or wash 'em, right?

Do you also hang the things you normally fold when they're clean?

I don't do any thing differently except to turn things inside out and put them back on the hanger from which they came. That's how I tell.

I air them outside the closet overnight, then hang them back in the closet still inside out. Next time I get them out, I know this is the last wear.

I also have a basket for other similarly worn once clothes/underthings that you don't normally hang.

Kay SD:

If it's clean enough to wear a second time then it's clean enough to be put away with the rest of my clothes is how I feel. As long as the item does not have an odor of any kind it goes back in with the rest and waits its' turn again.

However, if you feel you want to segregate them from the rest, set aside a small part of your closet and keep those already worn clothes together in that place.

Maria

Funny thing is he never seems to wear them again. I just hang mine back in the closet if only worn for a few hours.

I agree with curly white dog - if it is clean enough to be worn again it is clean enough to be put back in with the remainder of the clothes. If it is not clean enough to hang back into the other clothing then it should be washed. I rarely wear anything more than once. I like to wear clean clothing every day.

I hang them in the closet to be pulled out when I want to wear them again -- or if it's an item I plan to wear again in very short order, I just drape it neatly over the back of the loveseat in our bedroom or hang it on a hanger in the front of my closet where I'll see it first thing. When I've worn it again and am ready to launder, I put it in the dirty clothes hamper for the next wash.

Half clean? To me, they are either clean or dirty. If you really don't think them clean enough to put with the other clothes, then you launder. If they don't pass the "sniff test, then launder. I prefer clean clothes. Sometimes it isn't possible.

I like the idea of hanging inside out and airing before putting in closet.

I like the idea of getting a different color of HH for once worn clothing. I'd still keep it is a separate section. I don't want to hunt all over my closet for things when I do the laundry. I like to check things.

I also air clothes I've worn before hanging them back in the closet. I used to wash everything after wearing only one time but, after reading here about how it is unnecessary & hard on clothes, I stopped doing that.

Lots of good ideas, thanks. The extra batch of colored hangars is the one I'm going to try next--easy to do and hard to make a mistake.

For me it's not about things with a smell or visible dirt--I do wash such items. But sometimes I only wear something for a short time. Other things just don't seem to need to be washed each time they are worn, like jeans. And too-frequent washing does shorten the life of some things. In addition, water is expensive and sometimes rationed, so I try not to use more than I need. Still, I don't want to forget and leave things "half clean" for too long.

I appreciate the variety of viewpoints. And truly, my opinions are no better than anyone else's opinions--they're just the one I have at this moment.
