I just read an article in House Beautiful about what is trending in home decor - color wise. Grey is still big and bright jewel tones seem to be currently popular against the backdrop of grey. but trending forward - it seems the color palettes of the 70s and 80s are expected to return. The pink and blue or the orange with olive greens. I bet many of us remember those. They are saying that olive is going to be huge. Personally - i am not a fan of olive green.

Yesterday i was at the mall and the clothing colors I saw everywhere for this fall/winter seems to be burgundy /wine - forest green - navy - rust - and royal purple -- traditional jewel toned fall colors. Those just happen to be colors I look best in and thus wear often.

During the last two week I've been to about 20 homes in the home show for our area. I didn't see any olive green, but I saw lots of pale gray green and pale blue for wall color. Neutral light color carpeting, but mostly wood floors. Surprisingly there was no granite in any of the houses, just quartz and marble. Saw lots of white subway tile and glass accents. All the houses were done in light, calming, cheerful colors. Even the 2 and 5 million dollar houses. One bedroom that had everyone captivated was something I never would have thought of. The ceiling was painted light turquois, the walls were light plum, the bedding was in turquois and coral, coral drapes, whitewash furniture, and a fun white light fixture. Everything in the room was fun. Turquois and coral are for sure this year.

That is also why I don't like granite counter tops - hospitals have had granite counters, grey walls and SS appliance my entire career. I never wanted my home to look like a hospital.

Grey seems like a rather sad color to me. I've been through the pink/blue stage and even had a Christmas tree flocked in pale blue one year. When you mention orange and olive, those were the colors of two phones we had in our house in the 1970's.

Well, then my house is back in style! Olive gingham wallpaper in the kitchen (I won't even go into the border above), ordinary grey countertops and Portmeirion wallpaper up the stairs and in the upper hallway. New aubergine chaise in the living room (love that color).

Good thing we bought this place last year; there could have been a fight over it if folks realized they could be on top of the style curve. Did I mention the vintage AT&T phones I own that still function? Wall phone, princess phone . . .

Color fads in home decor can come and go for all I care, as I enjoy looking at what's new, but never change my mind about what I like.

I have done all white (off white really) walls and ceilings and very neutral light tan carpets in the main living areas, so I can just change a few accessory pieces for the various seasons. I don't like dark walls or window treatments at all. The older I get, I need more light to see, and the dark colors make a house or room seem so dark to me.

I love charcoal in tops and jackets, handbags. Gray in decorating, (especially light grays) on the walls is a little to chilly for me. But I have seen it done well in decorating magazines, but I don't think I would want to live everyday with it. But I love greens, golds and burgundy, and I know many people are adverse to those colors..

My kitchen, odd as it sounds, pairs light-medium grey cabinets with spice orange walls along with mostly blue and white accessories and it's charming and very inviting. On the other hand, I picked very pale grey walls for a small bedroom and while it's a lovely color, it does require some warming up. It's a great color, but I won't repeat it whenever I repaint.

My colors have been burgundy/green with touches of blue for many years (off white walls, though). While I like some gray clothing, don't really like it for the house.

Sweetbay Magnolia...I still have two of those phones myself, one in the bedroom & one in the kitchen. They are 28 years old, original to the house, and have never given me a minute's trouble! The cordless phones, on the other hand, have been replaced several times.

Yes, Vermint! The wall phone is in my kitchen and the princess actually sits on a vintage phone chair in our "library", that I picked up at the local consignment shop. The upholstery is aubergine velvet. They work perfectly. My sister used to work for Ma Bell prior to the breakup and she gave them to me back in the early '80s.

Light bright blue, the color of ice burgs, is my favorite color to decorate with. It acts like a neutral and really brightens up a room. I grew up with a busy orange, brown, black, yellow, and green carpet in the family room. I can still see it when I close my eyes, it just will not go away... lol! ------ : )
