SOUTH CAROLINA KITCHEN AND DINING

Talented designer Marie Flanigan did this kitchen in an island ( Kiawah) South Carolina house--

Love the door with gothic arch, the beams, the fabulous work table/ island--

Lovely details, like sconces and marble shelf--

The countertop on table-- is that what you call a "leather" finish? I like it.

This combo of a still life, rush-seated antique corner chair, rugged beam-- classic.

Peeking through to the dining room--

The airy dining room, with its soaring ceiling, is a nice contrast-

The weathered, pale wood architectural elements whisper of the house's coastal location. It has to me, both a romantic and a rustic charm-- dreamy.

I just returned last week from visiting Charleston, SC for the first time...LOVED it! I'd love to go back. So, I'm in a SC frame of mind.

This is nice...I love rustic. I have and always love beamed ceilings. I love farmhouse, mixed with eclectic mix of modern and vintage...which this seems to be.

I also love warm neutrals, though I, personally, use a little more color...but I still appreciate this simple neutral palette.

I love that green velvet couch. I too have green velvet living room pieces, though mine are not that updated deep, grassier green but more dated, circa early 2000's, "sage"...but I still like them. Got too many other updates due, to worry about updating my couch!

I love how the hydrangeas and the green in them, pop with the couch, amid all the tans/browns/ivories. That, and the bowls of fruit, is only color used, really. So, all neutrals with what little nature, in the forms of fruit & flowers, they have, to add some color.

It's rustic, cozy, yet elegant too. Very nice. Thanks for sharing, @Oznell

Oooh...still noticing things too....I also love those "Gothic" (didn't know that's what they were, thanks @Oznell!) arches. So many nice details. Yes, that island is very unique and beautiful.

This is so well done...I love the cool calmness it exudes which is perfect for that warm location.

I would add a bit more fresh greenery to the Kitchen but that's all I would need to make it mine!

Unvarnished truth now from a farm girl from Oklahoma:

We vacationed in Charleston area for more than 24 years and nothing about this reminds me of that region. To this farm girl, cowgirl, it says big old haybarn that someone stuck a little furniture in.

Just being honest, we are all different, but -- me; I can't get past hay barn.

But in fairness, I was the one who brought up just recently getting back from Charleston, and that I was in a "SC" frame of mind. But Oznell isn't saying it's "Charleston", only South Carolina.

It doesn't give a "Charleston" vibe to me either...with Charleston's French quarter vibes, and old charming architecture.

As for South Carolina in general, which I don't know that well...this might fit in somewhere. Either way, just making that note that the post wasn't from Charleston.

Still, a pretty nice "haybarn" to me.

There are certain aspects of this house that I like, but being at the beach, it's too formal to me. I would prefer lighter colors in the furnishings. I have been to Kiawah and it's just beautiful (minus the giant cockroaches all over the place) and there's a lot of old money down there. Homes in the range of 1 million to 9 million.

@amyb I'd take it for a hay barn! And I think it would do fine anywhere as that. At least from the ones I've been in. Falling down ones from the 1800's, round wood ones, pole barns with tin, and a few fancy ones like this that rich folks build when they buy a spread somewhere! Oh and fancy event barns. . . !

I should have said "Lowcountry" not Charleston. This would be a barn like you would see in Kiawah and like the folk in the area around Charleston like the movie "Something to talk about" barns. Or a haybarn at Biltmore.

I love all the wood features of the dining room (especially the ceiling) but the rest of it doesn't appeal to me whatsoever.

What a lovely spacious kitchen!!!! I love the work table island which caught my eye immediately! It is beautiful and for me the piece that makes the kitchen so appealing The still life painting and the corner chair are lovely touches .The art work in the dining room is beautiful as is the dining room set, The shelves on the sides of the windows add such pretty decor to the room, dishes, books and I would add a few more to. While I do like rooms filled with a little more decor, I must say this kitchen and dining room are eye catching and very pretty!

I like the color on her walls and ceilings, and their velvety-looking texture.
