WHERE ARE YOUR LEANINGS?

Just a little quiz, to see where you fall in terms of the minimalism/ maximalism axis.

These aren't perfect examples, and you don't have to like the "style" of the room. You are judging the rooms more by how much is going on visually in each space-- and which you can tolerate the easiest.

1). Minimalist living room. But it does have some color, and a few pieces of decoration. To me, this is almost as minimalist as you can go, without sacrificing comfort.

2). A "medium" amount of decoration. Maybe skewed a little more toward maximalist. There is color, and art and books-- but, other than the pillows, not a lot of competing pattern. There are large stretches of solids in the couch, chairs and curtains. The average person walking in would probably not feel devastatingly overwhelmed by such a space.

3). Maximalism. Color, pattern, different textures, tone-on-tone, florals and plants. And requisite pup!

So, in terms of "how much" each room holds, which room, if any, is closest to your sense of visual comfort? 1, 2, or 3?

Definitely #1. But no blue. I'd use shades of tan instead.

I agree with @Puzzle Piece . I love #2 except that the black and white graphics on the pillows scream at me and ruin they whole look of the room. I think that Room #1 could use a bit more art work but, otherwise, is peaceful and lovely with good design elements.

#1 but it it not "minimalist" enough! Too many pillows! And no "flowers" on the table. But I would have some art on the walls.

Without necessarily 'choosing' one of the pictured rooms, my 'leanings' depend on the individual room in question. I like some maximally decorated spaces, some more moderately decorated and a few more spare. That said, I suppose, as a rule, that I lean somewhere between moderate and maximal. All that said, I am sometimes floored by comments about decor being 'excessive', 'OTT', and so on when they don't appear to be all that overwrought at all.

I was leaning maximalist before our house fire seven years ago. After seeing most of my sooty collections (books, art, sentimental favorites) get loaded onto two large trucks to be taken to landfill, I have evolved into a more minimalist individual.

Have to go with #1.

But I'd ditch the drapes, the pillows, the cocktail table, the lamp, the thing over the fireplace and all the blue.

I don't care for blue in the house.
