Dishwashers

Our 10 year old GE dishwasher is slowing dying. Looking for a different brand, maybe Maytag or Whirlpool. Any thoughts on dishwasher brands? Heard Bosch is very good but also very pricey.

Check out Bosch prices. They have different models. Bought one last year and think it is excellent.

I would suggest checking out Bosch as well. We just replaced our Bosch last month. The previous one lasted 15 years..

they have different series of DWs. We picked the 500 series, abut $1200. It is sleek to look at, and is whisper quiet. I think they start in the $650 range, Adding bells and whistles will increase the price. Bosch service is excellent, should you need it.

We just purchased a Bosch dishwasher. In my honest opinion, I'm really disappointed. We did purchase the top of the line that includes what they call mineral dry...it's suppose to dry the entire load without spots on the plastic. Well, that cycle requires 3 hours to run. There is not heating element in it, so it runs on the temperature of your water. I run it on the quickest cycle, which runs an hour an twenty minutes. If I don't open it when the cycle is finished to let the steam escape, everything is spotted. We do use Jet Dry and Cascade pods, but there's still always spots on the plastic ware and some of the glassware. If I knew then what I know now, I would not purchase a Bosch. This is just my experience, but I hope it helps. I think there are good dishwashers out there for less price.

@bargainsgirl I am a big believer in "not throwing good money after bad." Having said that I suggest your buying the best dishwasher that yout budget can accommodate. If it is more expensive than others, it will likely (but not always, of course) save you money in the long run, not to mention hassle. Although I know nothing about dishwashers currently on the market, I have heard and read in the past that Bosch dishwashers were superior to others. I also believe in doing my homework and spend a lot of time rsearching major purchases both online and in print media -- which has always paid off.

Call me crazy, but I have not used my dishwasher in years, I actually enjoy washing and drying my dishes on my own, just 2 of us so only takes a short time and I am done. The one I have is a Whirlpool.

We bought a Bosch a few years ago and love it. We got the middle priced model and I thought it was competitively priced. It's so quiet that you have to listen closely to tell if it's on. And it really cleans well

Whatever you do, don't buy a Samsung!

We got a KitchenAide about 12 years ago and we did a lot of research on it before purchasing. From the very beginning it was a piece of junk! We broke down and purchased a Miele two years ago and it is wonderful!

It cleans my dishes so they look sparkling clean, it's also very quiet. No little pieces of plastic constantly breaking off and so far it has needed no repairs. I use it almost everyday.

Bosch by far is the best dishwasher I've ever had.

Bought at Home Depot on sale for $600 about 6 years ago. Of course they've gone up in price but it was reasonable and competitively priced then.

When / if it goes it'll be replaced with another Bosch.

They make almost zero sound and dishes look the best.

We've had a Bosch for several years and have never had a problem. Dishes come out PERFECT! Before we got the Bosch, we had a few different kinds; one was a Maytag. No other dishwasher did as good a job as our Bosch!

I only use it when I'm doing my cabinet cleaning..Once in awhile just so the hoses don't dry out.

We bought another Bosch when we moved here 10 years ago. It is in a kitchen/living area and I can sit 15 feet from it and not hear it running. We have had no trouble with it.

If you are anywhere near the dishwasher when it is running, get a quiet Bosch. Different models have different decible ratings--so I'd check that out.

Whatever you do, don't buy a Samsung!

No LG or Samsung for us!! Our repair man will not even service those brands. Parts are extremely pricey if you can find them.

The Maytag dishwasher we bought, when we built our house 25 years ago never worked right from the get-go. Wouldn't dispense the rinse aid and the technician couldn't figure out why. Even though it wasn't even a year old and under warranty we were told we'd have to "live with it".

When it died prematurely, I bought a Bosch (the brand I always had in England). It's now 18 years old and still works as well as it did the day we had it installed.

If it decides to pack up after all these years, I'll buy another Bosch.

Same with our lousy, top-of-the-line Maytag washer that turned out to be part of a class-action lawsuit that we weren't told about by the salesman. And then we were told we were out of time to file. Replaced that with a Bosch front-load washer about the same time as the dishwasher. Still works perfectly.

No repairs on either appliance in all these years. I'd rather pay more and have something that lasts.

Every time I saw those stupid ads for the "lonely Maytag repairman" I'd shout at the tv that he could come fix our crappy machines!

Love the Bosch dishwashers we have at home, small business and DS's home. They are the best and quiet as a mouse.

I have had just about brand of dishwasher out there. Ours runs at least twice a day, so we use them hard.

Normally, we need them repaired twice a year and replace them about every five years.

Right now I have a GE Profile. It's about six years old and has never needed service. It's the best we have ever had...and it cleans very well.

If your current dishwasher lasted 10 years, that's a longtime for a dishwasher. Why would you want to entertain a different brand?

I love my Bosch! I had a GE last time and, in a year's time, had to repair it three times. When the repair costs finally were higher than a replacement, I did some research and decided on Bosch. The company here that sells this brand also repairs them, if needed. That's a big plus for me. We have one very reputable appliance repair company here and they stay busy. Our Lowe's sells LG and Samsung and I was told by a repairman to never get those brands. I don't know their reason, just taking them at their word. I'm guessing it's a parts issue. Love my Whirlpool. I like the stainless steel interior, too. I've had it about 3 years. No problem but one-the rack broke. They were Johnny on the Spot when they came with a new one. I forget what they said happened. No charge. Made in USA!
