APARTMENT RENOVATION IN PARIS

You might remember genial designer Garrow Kedigian, whose house in Montreal, and then an apartment in New York, I've posted here.

18 months ago, he took on a daunting renovation of an apartment in Paris in an 1890's building.

It's been fun to follow the renovation. Luckily, being orignally from Quebec, his French is good, and he can communicate his wishes quite well to the artisans and contractors.

Now it's done. What a job. He raised the lowered ceilings, moved walls, scoured the Paris flea markets for pillars, mantels and pilasters, and painted in his signature bold colors. You might remember some of the art work though, from his previous houses. I like that he recycles...

His living room has the most gorgeous curving wall of windows--

He cleverly chose a couch with a curved back echoing the windows' curve. I love that rich looking throw pillow with classical figures on it...

The stunning mirror over the fireplace, original to the apartment, had a broken frame but his "mirror guy" restored it. The chandelier is also original, and is of Murano glass.

This is the corner he calls his tribute to Venice, one of his favorite cities:

The library glows, and he found the mantel in a back room at the Paris flea market. It has a tiny thread of the wall color running through it...

He added the stately pillars on the left, which look like they've always been there. He had the symmetrical pedimented bookcases on the back wall built in.

It's a working library, with his desk on the other side of the couch--

The dining room is smallish, despite the high ceiling. Another jewel-box space.

The huge mirrored area behind the leather settee helps enlarge the space.

Because of the size of the room, it was a great idea to use the settee as a banquette, pulling it to the wall, so there's more passageway space in the room. Plus, it gives an intimate, bistro feeling--

(I would like that beautiful alabaster pedestal bowl on the table at the right!)

A glimpse into the kitchen, with it's gorgeous curved cabinets, brushed brass backsplash, and round interior window...

The talented Garrow shows his sketch idea for the kitchen, before it actually materialized. I think he's an architect as well as a designer, and it shows.

Well, this is another of Homeworthy's videos that is so rewarding to watch all through-- my still pictures simply cannot convey how stunning and beautifully finished the entire apartment is. Also, if interested, consult the video for the gorgeous bedrooms, hallway, baths, and tons of architectural details I can't show here.

Garrow's work is eye candy for anyone interested in home design, impossible not to drool, ha.

It looks like the type of place that one could enjoy discovering over and over again, that there are suprises and discoveries to be unveiled as one spends time in the apartment. I love the curved cupboards in the kitchen, amazing and inventive. The curved wall of windows and that beautiful settee really set the tone for the beautiful backdrop of the scenery beyond the window. I wonder where in Paris this is located. . . it's stunning.

I was a bit "posted out", ha, when I put the last of these images up yesterday, but there are so many interesting aspects to this space-- had to bring out a few more! But rest assured-- even if a hundred images were posted, there'd still be more in this apartment to hone in on-- it's that detailed.

For example-- the pale hallway that sort of acts as a palate cleanser for the rest of the vibrantly colored apartment. It looks like a light, sky blue to me---

I love the contrasting thin gold banding, and then the rich crown moulding with dentil millwork.

And speaking of dentil moulding, check out the much chunkier version at the ceiling of the library, below. Then he continues on with a painted line detail on the ceiling itself--

Perhaps the most stunning parts of the dining room are the rescued pilasters ( the flat rectangular columns) that he found at the Paris flea market, painted a deep charcoal, and installed. There's one of them close up at the right of the image below, and he has them flanking the window too--

They're so tall, rats, I can't get them in one image, but there's how they end up at the ceiling, with contrast color moulding at the top--

And he tops them with a ceiling of what looks to be shimmering squares of metallic tea paper, a high-glamour effect...

I love his Paris apartment. Actually, I covet it. Overall, I'm not much of a fan of today's iterations of most 'shelter' magazines, House Beautiful included, but they did a spread on his first Paris apartment a year or so ago and it's an issue I saved and go back to time and time again to see his work. If I could afford it and to hire him, I'd have him come in and renovate my place.

This looks like PARIS to me.

It would be my Vacation Home in Paris if I had unlimited funds.

I find it a bit dark but could definitely live with the colors if it were not my permanent home.

So many stunning elements, especially the chandelier, mirror over the fireplace and that amazing settee.

The brass backsplash is a bit too much for me but I see the appeal!

Oh what a fabulous place to explore, even just by photograph.

I think that curved window is the most distincitve part of this beautiful apartment. His attention to intricate wall and ceiling detail is also a kind of genius, to assure these define the style and do not sit as simple background.

I'm not a huge fan of that deep green in the primary room, but his color palette is intriguing and defines the style, too.

I think that incredible marble in the kitchen is a tour-de-force.

Very beautiful and I like how he is not afraid of color. The furniture is so nice as well-very parisian and full of color!

Egads....this sure isn't for me. While i love that he's not afraid to use color, I find, as a whole, that everything is competing for attention....and not in a good way. It comes off gaudy to me and being over decorated doesn't help. Personally, I'm also not a fan of the French or French Country furniture.

I always thought if I were ever to live abroad it would be in Paris. The buildings have such beautiful architecture
