Refrigerator recommendations.

I just replaced my dryer last month and now my refrigerator is on it's last leg. I don't need anything with too many features as it's just myself. I would like an ice maker though .At only 6yrs old my current large G.E. has already needed 3 repairs. Any help would be appreciated.

hard to find plain frig's these days, so many bells and whistles whether u want them or not.

i would steer clear of Samsung, no one i know has had good luck with them.

LG is pretty reliable. what is your size and price range?

I haven't heard anything good about any of them. It's the one appliance on which I'd definitely get an extended warranty. It's criminal to pay so much for such shoddy appliances.

I've had a very basic Samsung french door fridge--no ice maker, water dispenser, etc.--for 5 or 6 years now, with absolutely NO ISSUES.

Again NO bells or whistles on this one...it's equipped for an ice maker, though, we just decided we didn't want it.

I also have a French door refrigerator for the past several years as well.

There is nothing on the outside if that's what you are looking for, but it does make ice automatically in the bottom drawer freezer, if that is all you need. You can also turn it off which is what I do since I never use ice.

I think it may be a Samsung, but I would have to go home and look if a freezer ice maker with nothing outside on the door is okay for you.

My former husband worked for a huge property management company i.e. lots of units so the discount was very good passed on to the employees.

We all ordered GE refrigerators, some even bought the Monogram line which is around $5,000.

None of us liked them, freezing food in the refrigerator and as you say multiple repairs.

We have a Samsung Door in Door French Door refrigerator and love it, have had it about 6 years.

Same age as my Samsung, has a few bells & whistles with water / ice dispenser, door in door and LOVE it.

We just replaced our Samsung (lasted 12 years) with an LG...so far, it is okay....I liked the Samsung better.

None of them are great these days and they cost a fortune.

We have a cheap Electrolux French door that is 8 years, totally quiet except when it dumps ice and never any trouble with it.

You never know. If you have any recommencations for one that is TOTALLY quiet I'd like to know for future reference.

AVOID SAMSUNG. Every Samsung I have ever owned has been a lemon....read online reviews. There's lots of complaints.

I'm going to join the bandwagon of the people that say No Samsung! Our fridge still works okay, but trying get parts for it is extremely expensive. My husband can fix anything and went to order the rubber gasket that goes around the doors and it was $300! And you have to use their parts if you want it to fit properly. So we're just going to hang onto for awhile and just buy a new fridge.

We had the same problem with our Samsung dishwasher. We needed new wheels for the racks and they were $30 for a set of two. And we needed four sets. He ordered a generic set to try,but they didn't fit properly and kept falling off. So we bought a new Bosch dishwasher and we love it.

I would start off by saying stay away from Samsung. Have Hurd tons of bad stuff about Samsung. We bout a new whirlpool refrigerator with freezer on top last January and we already had it fixed twice due to a freezer problem not defrosting.its frost free . I got paper work to buy a service contract on it and I did buy it. From what I have seen about companies that handle service contracts whirlpool and Maytag contracts are really good. I looked into buy a contract on our he washer and the company that handles ge contracts reviews were almost all awful about how bad they do or don't honor and do repairs so I didn't buy it. That ge washer did die under 6 years old.had I had a good contract that whirlpool and Maytag contracts provide I could have gotten washer fixed and it would have been covered 100 percent. Good luck.choosing a new refrigerator. Consider buying a contract. Ice makers tend to being need to bbe fixed alot.I Hurd that from a repair man. So good luck.

I just remodeled my kitchen a year ago. I sprung for high end appliances this time around. I got all Blue Star brand. Counter depth frig and a 48" Dual fuel oven. After using these appliances for a year now I will NEVER go back to the other cheaper brands. You certainly get what you paid for with something better. I'm over-the-moon in love with my frig and oven!

@blinksmom I asked my refrigerator repairman which appliances he repaired the least and he told me Frigidaire. We have a stack washer and dryer that is over 22 years old and it's a Fridgidair. Our fridge is a Whirlpool and its 16 years old with one minor repair.
The repairman said that any appliances made after 1989 aren't the quality they used to be. We also have a Kenmore side by side in our basement for extra storage that we bought in 1991 which has never needed a repair. So, it's fair to say that appliances aren't made like they used to be.

I have a great repairman. He said Samsung is not good. He likes Kitchenaid.
