SANTA FE DWELLING

So glad to find this, since many of us appreciate beautiful Southwest designs. This design firm, French and French, did a stellar job on what is known as "the Applegate Estate", an historic property in Santa Fe. It is thought to date back to the 1700s!

Rich textiles--

Gorgeous deep set windows, characteristic of this historic style. The barrelled ( sp?) ceiling, another charming aspect.

Awww.... @luvzchiz , this one's for you...

Of course, the lower ceilings and antique beams can be slightly forbidding to some-- a building like this will never aspire to "light-and-bright". But I bet it has seemed like a cool respite from the burning Southwestern sun over the centuries...

Love the way they've gracefully mixed the best of Santa Fe design with other traditional elements. The result to me looks both elegant and comfortable.

Even though I'm not normally a fan of Southwest decor,(apologies to those who are, I love all of this.

Charming, cozy, comfortable, and yes, elegant.

I love the beautiful wood and windows and all the furniture and decorations.

They did a beautiful job of making this such a livable, and inviting home.

Love what they have done with this home. I love the warm and welcoming feel, the colors, the wood, all fantastic.

The only thing I am not fond of is Southwest Tapestries /Wall Hangings...I just think they cheapen a room... but that's just me. I would replace them with something else.

The drapes would be replaced with a solid color also.

I'm not typically a fan of the usual SW 'look', but overall, this is very appealing.

In the dining room, note the depth of the walls at the windows. This is typical of old Adobe brick construction. Nowadays it's very expensive and it's labor intensive, and the material is high maintenance. It's still used in expensive homes though.

I've never been in a traditional Pueblo style home that used Navajo rugs on the floor. Typically oriental style rugs are used with Navajos being used as wall hangings as was done in this house and as I have done in my house. They are valuable and I've never trusted my dogs. The Navajos, of course, are 100% wool and stain readily, although they wear well.

Wow.

There are a lot of rooms in that house. I can count 3 areas with tables and chairs to dine at or play games. At least two or possibly three sitting areas.

The first sitting room has a lot of pattern going on there. I think a bit less pattern would make that room nicer, maybe even just keeping the throw cushions a solid neutral.

I love that barreled ceiling with the beams. Really gives a lighter look to the sort of claustrophobic beamed ceilings elsewhere.

That kitchen is unexpected, and that lovely blue La Cornue range is out of this world. I love how the marble backsplash covers most all of that lower wall. Gives a nice elegance to that side of the kitchen. However, I'm not impressed with those blue chairs in the apparent breakfast room. They seem more modern than the rest of the home.

Very well handled, with neutrals and a few color accents. Lots of patterns Atmospheric, but not cliche'.

I love everything (especially in the first picture). Lovely furniture.

@Oznell The kitchen is just about perfect but yes, the ceilings are far too low for me.

This is not exactly my favorite style but I do love most of this. It's so warm, rich and inviting. I'd replace the sofa and chairs in the first living room and I'm also not loving the kitchen but everything else is beautiful!!
