Michaels--so disappointed

DD and I went to our local Michaels store this a.m. to find some vase fillers--you know, tiny pinecones or pumpkins or fall--ish items --that kind of thing. ---what a huge let-down!! First off----this store is a dump--inside and out and hardly any fall decors along with many empty shelves. Are the tariffs starting to have effects on these type of stores? Granted it has been in this location since the 70"s--used to be called Treasure House. Guess I will go to AMZ for this stuff.

Try Ben Franklins in Redmond or Monroe if you want a drive. I miss those stores. @wagirl

@tansy --yes that is what I will do--I live in Woodinville so the Redmond store is closest.

I was surprised that the two locations have different owners. Monroe is bigger.

Our Michael's here is very well stocked @wagirl . For holiday home decor I prefer Hobby Lobby. If you have one near you try there. Their aisles are literally overflowing. You can't even fit through them.

I was just in a pottery store the other day and the owner who makes most of the pieces told me that she's having difficulty getting supplies to make her pottery. She also said that the tariffs are taking a toll on her business. She's had to double the prices of most of her items b/c of that. Customers are shying away while her inventory shrinks. It's disheartening for small businesses. Some may have to close their doors.

It does seem like small businesses are being thrown under the bus. The fat cats get fatter.

@cjm61 I also prefer Hobby Lobby. I actually live about 1/2 mile from a Michael's, but they don't compare. Very few customers. When I am looking for something unique, I go to Hobby Lobby...and that is a 30+ mile drive for me. Although I don't like the drive...it's always worth the trip.

Yes,a few weeks ago ,i stopped in to a michaels,i agree it was a dump,not much of anything.

I went to Michael's last weekend, they had a good selection and sales on most things, I also hit the Dollar Tree for some 'filler' leaves, etc, and they had good selection and pricing.

The Michaels in our town has been struggling since COVID-19. I don't know why COVID-19 should affect the store so much, but it has been struggling since then. I thought they would rebound, but they never have.

The Michaels store where I live is nice , well organized and well stocked . I was there today and bought several items - all on sale !

It is disappointing to go to a store and not find what you were wanting. The two Michaels near me are both nice stores. One of them is even a new store. As others have said, Hobby Lobby is also a good choice. I find the nicer independent garden centers have a nice selection as well.

I don't seem to have luck in Michaels, the selection isn't what it once was. Home Goods and Hobby Lobby are where I go now.

The Michaels near me is a you know what show and I can't imagine where they are going to put the fabric department if and when it happens.

I only go there when I can't find what I'm looking for at the other hoobby store across the highway.

@Kachina624 ----No, don't think that was the issue. The entire store looked like it hadn't been stocked at all. So many empty shelves on all aisles. Even the normal stuff was sparse. Hardly any xmas stuff or halloween things out either. A bunch of on sale spring/summer things tho----went there during the summer and things looked good, even had halloween out. Not a fan of HOBBY LOBBY , but will go back to Homegoods--they have the best things as well as our local Ben Franklin and then there's always AMZ too.
