WHEN SUMMER FADES INTO FALL

Some people like it when it's the end of summer, and a few whispers of fall start to be felt. ( I understand avoiding this thread if you are still glorying in the high days of summer!)

Sunflowers have a way of spanning the two seasons, and the Petite Haus even added her charming gardener-nutcracker that she always puts out in August/September. I thought he was a pilgrim at first, but he's a gardener!

He is so cute with his little mini sunflowers and shovel...

She adds just a white or green pumpkin or two..

and a weathered candlestick and old books in russet and earth tones start to cozy things up...

Love her three-tiered stand with its mix of seasonal flowers, fruits, and china in deep blue tones. I have that same little Wedgwood pitcher on the bottom, but mine is in the more common powder blue-- wish I had the navy, a color which looks esp. good in fall!

Va.sweet pea, who no longer blogs, made subtle changes in her living room to span the seasons.

Her way of doing it --with hydrangeas and vintage brown glass on the mantel:

Handsome old bottles, that were handed down--

She brought in orange flower-splashed pillows, which represent both seasons...

And colorful apples!

And this vignette was so cool, as a harbinger of fall-- a wooden football puzzle of her Dad's, and a vintage football helmet and player of her grandfather's--

So clever, and sweetly sentimental!

"Let's Add Sprinkles" starts using apples, pears, roosters and sunflowers among her white decor. Love that she leans on vintage, esp. the vintage roosters! And pears are so mellow...

That green honey pot is so sweet. I suppose she considered it "summer into fall" because honey is sort of a "harvest", ha--

Speaking of green, it's one of those colors that works so well in all seasons, and in between, in its different shades.

I noticed an online site that touted "green and cream" as being enhancing for a transitional summer-to-fall feeling.

Especially in the sage-y realm. I do like the effect of these earthy sage-colored pillows in grounding a room-

Very nice, I liked everything except the chickens. They just aren't for me, but I know others enjoy.

It's still very warm here in KY, but I'm looking forward to fall. It's my favorite time of year. I love the warm colors of the season. I wait until September to put out fall touches in my home.

I like the sunflowers, gourds, fruits, and other neutral elements in these rooms. I use those kinds of items in my harvest decorating. I also like most of the ceramic pieces.

Dont really care for the chickens, rooster, gardener statue, and blue drapes.

Almost perfection to me.

I would remove the heavy blue drapes, Gardener, chickens, sheep pillow, and football themed items. They are just not me.

I welcome Fall with open arms and a big smile! I love the feeling of the season and these photos of Autumn decor are all lovely and appealing. I look forward to displaying my faux Fall foliage. The beautiful chair with the throw and pillow showing sheep is so pretty. I love the candlesticks and all the Fall touches in each photo. I also decorate with old books and that is always an eye catcher for me. Decorating for Fall, Yes!!!!!!!

I like these small touches of Fall that bridge the gap until we are in full Fall decor.

Here in NY we are expecting another heat wave this week with 90 plus degrees and high humidity. I love Fall and usually start decorating the first week of September - can't wait!

I hate to see fall and the shorter days. I haven't done seasonal decorating in many many years. I have what I love and live happily with that.

We do put a fall wreath on the door, not to disappoint the neighbors, and put out the throws (very plain), and a huge Christmas tree in the front window with a nativity set. Lights on the house, again to represent the 'hood well.

I just got too old to bother with it, and am helping out the attic!

I have sunflowers on my dining room table @Oznell . I love them. I have a cool gray color pallet, so the sunflower yellow is warm and vibrant, it creates a visual tension. The contrast is striking.

Awe Fall! I love all of these.

My very favorite is:

The 3rd scene. I love that fireplace and the stone, although I think I'd want a darker more rustic wood finish on the mantel.

Maybe just take it down, beat it with some heavy chains, gouge the corners and darken and age it and it would be a wow.

*Pretty Parisian sconce too.

*I always love the simple fabric and velvet pumpkins with the gnarly real pumpkin stems.

*The brown bottles and green pear swag, love.

*The moody, earthy greens are nice as well...

Sunflowers are a great way to transition from summer to fall. I'll be sorting through my decor soon. Watching Valerie's fall shows will help me get into the seasonal change.

And my eye keeps going back to the area above the stove...

@Oznell So many nice ideas. I love the amber bottles, and the green honey pot. I "found" a 3-tiered stand that was my great aunts when I moved to my childhood home. I may pull it out and try to make a small vignette like the tiered stand showed with fall items. Thanks for sharing and always posting so many beautiful homes.

I am also, not a fan of chickens and roosters. (I should love them, my grandparents were farmers).

I am SO ready for fall. I love the cooler days and the beautiful colors!

@lynnie61 , those 3-tiered affairs are really fun. Hope you do pull yours out. Gives you three whole levels to decorate however way you choose, in a one compact space so you're not over-filling or possibly cluttering other areas, love that.

Oh, so fun to look at decor photos like these. Of course, when you have spectacular kitchens and fireplaces and such, the decor sometimes seems very secondary.

I do like the subtle uses of little white and green pumpkins. Small velvet pumpkins are so nice to bring in subtle shades of pre-fall color and have a soft easy look. I adore those darling green bee skeep pieces,

I find sunflowers really go a long way and a few are just enough in my house. I do adore having them outside, however, and always regret not planting sunflower seed varieties in the spring. Oh well, I can hardly take care of what garden I have, anyway.

This is such a timely thread @Oznell .

Today I bought a bunch of sunflowers at a farm stand we pass every once in a while.

It's one of those 'honor box' kind of places, we've stopped there before. We had met the man wjp runs the farm and today I had the pleasure of meeting his wife, Kitty.

Of all places, she was born in Holland! She was as beautiful and cheerful as a sunflower! If you go, tell her Cookie sent you!

Tip she shared with me, once the sunflower starts to drop (droop) a bit, cut the stem completely off (sheer it flush to the base of the flower). Put it in a bowl/shallow dish with water. It will thrive another week 'smiling face up'.

@Oznell - Thank you for posting these lovely pictures! I drag summer out as long as I can, but. . .

1. I love sunflowers. They were in our garden. And everyone knows they're my "late summer theme." I have a lot of things friends have given me.

2. I love sage, and dark sage is the color of my sofa, loveseat, and light curtains in our family room. Your pictures have given me so many good ideas. I always pick up the darker colors in the room; I never thought about cream!

I just splurged on a mini sunflower bag last month The sunflowers seem to almost jump off the bag - they are so vibrant!

Sunflowers are my favorite flower. I have white ones on my kitchen table that I just purchased from HG and the orange/red ones in my great room. I would remove the heavy blue drapes,not a fan of chickens, sheep, roosters and velvet anything.
