ROOMBA VACUUM

Lately, I've become "allergic" to vacuuming!

I have a Dyson that I've used for about 5 yrs. I never was crazy about vacuuming but "pushed myself" to do it as I like my apt looking "up to standard" and, yes, the dust bin canister is definitely full of debris that accumulates on my carpets when I finally decide to "do the vacuuming."

I'm warming to the idea of getting a ROOMBA that I've seen demo-ed on HSN many times. However, I have a few questions:

Does it actually pick up as much dirt as I see in the demo's?
Is it easy to assemble?
Does that docking station feature actually work so that the machine finds its way "home"?
Is it easy to "set up" so that the robot knows the configuration of the space in all rooms?

I just need that extra "push" to get myself out of this cycle of "disappointment" that another day went by without my carpets being vacuumed.

@pdlinda. I had a Roomba that I used for s3veral years but eventually abandoned because it was too tedious and time-consuming to remove the hair from the brushes. It wouldn't run otherwise. I had 2-3 Collies at the time...need I say more?

It did a good job on surface dirt but you do need to vacuum to get deep down dirt occasionally. It works just as advertised.

I just got one that you can program to your floor plan, then tell it which rooms to vacuum. It also empties itself when fininshed. In my home it goes back to the dock station about half way through to empty and re-charge, When it is charged again, it starts back up on it's own and finishes the job.

It is a Shark, and I believe it mentioned pet hair in the blurb. I only have french bulldogs, so their hair is too short for causing a problem.

I purchased it on Amazon during the "Prime Days" promo. I am so happy to have it. It does a great job, and it's fun to watch.

@Kachina624 I have no pets so that wouldn't be a problem. I think I would opt for the one with the emptying dirt bin feature that returns to the docking station automatically.

Christmas will come a little early this year.... (why I have to rationalize a purchase that would make my life easier is ridiculous, but I guess I'm hard wired that way)

@FLtricia Is the unit heavy? Do you operate it with a phone app? Does it recharge on its own?

I am on my second Roomba. The first one (an I7) was good and lasted 6 years.

Last year I bought a new one an (I9) and I like it better. It's easy to use, no programming. You do have to download an app, then let it run the first time throughout the house. That will map each room. I have no idea how it can do that.

They automatically will find their way home. Mine has an auto trash bin.

The suction is average, it does a decent job. I really like mine. I bought it directly from Roomba.

But, each model has different features you should check into.

@pdlinda I love my Roomba! It is several years old. I have the one with the rubber rollers. It does a great job. Mine isn't programmed to run a certain pattern. I just let it do its own thing. I don't expect perfection. Mine doesn't empty itself and I like it that way. I will buy another one when this one dies.I don't like to push a vacuum.

Our Roomba is 5 years old, a iRobot Roomba 671 Wi-Fi, I bet I only used it a dozen times, I should have known better, our house is a multi-level, if I'm moving it I may as well use the Dysons.

Love my Roombas! I run them every day. Sometimes twice a day!

I have two cats, short haired, but they're nervous or something because they are constantly shedding! If you don't have pets, I envy you!

I have hardwood floors except tile in the bathrooms with long, plush bathmats. The Roomba transitions from hardwood, goes over the threshold and over the bathmats.

Mine are about 7 years old each. Never had a problem with them.

Mine do not self-empty. I want to be able to do that outside each time. I wouldn't even dump them in the kitchen can, I don't want all that dust going into the air. The lid on the can would su ck it upwards everytime you went to open it. Yuck! Besides the self empyting ones would need to be emptied, too.

Mine can be run on an app, but I don't do apps. lol.

My house is set up so that it does a room and I let in in another room myself. I block each doorway with a long piece of driftwood I have. Works perfectly. I give each room about 20 mins each and 10 for bathrooms.

Unbelieveable how much stuff they pick up! I have one for each floor.

Tried to find the same kind(s) I have now on Amazon day, but they're all the big huge docking stations and self emptying. Mine are discreet charging stations.

I have a shark and I love it! It picks up pretty well, we have two short haired kitties. Before company I will ask my husband to vacuum with the traditional vacuum to make sure we get all the spots.

I don't program it I just let it do its thing and I press the clean button when I want it to vacuum I don't use the app.

I weighed the vacuum part and it is 6 lbs. That is the first time I have picked it up since arrival.

I put the app on my IPad. It can go on phone too.

First you have it map your house (easy). Then you name your rooms. That's it.

You can then tell it to vacuum, or vacuum specific rooms. Yes, it recharges on its own. And if power is running low it goes back to station to charge.

You can also tell it to return to station if you want it to stop.

There is a storage cup for the dirt in the docking station which you lift off, and push a latch over the trash can and it empties.

I was leery to get one, but am SO glad that I did.
