Airy 1920's beach cottage.

Hilary Decker Seitz and her husband renovated the cottage over time. Over on the right, "Betty" brings a canine vigilance, gazing out the window...

Do not know why "Homeworthy"'s videographer makes everything look dark-- apologies!

Hilary mixes so many of the "old-school" cottage elements I'm most partial to-- easy slipcovers, woven blinds admitting romantic filtered light, weathered old wood, seascapes, a little touch of gilt in the vintage mirror frame...

The elegance of simplicity...

How cute is Betty, who has the run of the living room-- no worries, with washable slipcovers.

On the far wall-- real, pressed French botanicals in frames under glass, and French doors. Nice painted brick fireplace on the right.

Betty is so alert. Over on the right, is a collectible midcentury "Pretzel" chair, that was Hilary's grandmother's. Another eclectic touch, and one that has personal meaning...

Sprightly block print pillows-- love their charming, hand-blocked nostalgic patterns.

Hey, no wonder I like her rooms-- she has India Hicks' book, LOVE India Hicks!

Her kitchen is darling, very English-influenced, deVol I think?

But even better is what she calls "the scullery"-- a little adjoining room they created when they renovated this cottage--

Love the partially window'd walls enclosing the little space, the shelves of transferware, the untreated brass fixtures, and the sweet cafe curtains...

Serene bedroom...

Cozy, simple, restrained.

That looks really nice and comfortable too.

The bedroom is really pretty.

Hilary looks so nice in her white dress. And Betty looks so sweet

The only things I don't like are the walls with "windows" surrounding the kitchen. I don't get them and would feel blocked in. Plus more cleaning windows. I'd knock them out for more room.

And I'd use another fireplace screen other than black.

I bet it is much brighter than it looks!

Being a Jersey girl, I'm always interested in seeing the lovely cottages that abound "down the shore".

Love the sofas, pillows, beautiful flowers and the pretzel chair (interesting and unique). Even though they are different, I just don't care for blinds and would remove them.

The kitchen is nice and I also like the cafe curtains. I don't quite understand closing off the scullery, especially with glass (?)

Nice pool but I would plant trees for privacy.

Betty is beautiful and is the house's loveliest asset.

What a lovely , light and airy shore cottage! While I prefer the bigger Victorian homes at the shore, this place is cozy and a nice getaway. I would rest, read and just enjoy the peaceful surroundings , an escape from the fast paced life.

It's not my style but it does come off fresh, clean and inviting. The major thing I would change is the kitchen layout. Not sure how I would arrange things but I know if would be different.

I love this light, open , airy home. I do not care for the Scullery closed in like that though. It makes seem too closed off and disconnected.

I also would do a little more landscaping in the back yard, some pretty flowers would liven it up a bit. Otherwise a great home!!!

Lovely!

Owning a pool I know grass around a pool is a royal pain. The grass gets stuck to everyones feet and ends up in the pool.

I would have to change a wide area around to pool to concrete or pavers to prevent that from happening.....been there done that.

So pretty. Calm and airy. She definitely captured a coastal vibe, but without looking too "beachy." I love all of the bright white, the pillows on the sofa, the wooden blinds, all of it, really! And Betty is a bonus!

Figured I'd be the only one here to champion the scullery! I like it better than the adjoining kitchen, even. What they're calling a scullery, is basically a butler's pantry, with some added utility. I like the intimate dimensions, extra sink and storage, everything. What a boon for entertaining too.

Interesting about interior window walls. They're one architectural feature that's become very popular, that I do agree with. You get an enclosed area, for whatever purpose, but also the light from the exterior windows in the area can flow on into the corridor, like in Hilary's example.

Downside-- more windows to wash. But I accept the trade-off for interior and exterior French doors too.

I've always loved transoms, for the same reason-- travelling light.

@CarolinaGirl88 , you captured my feeling exactly-- coastal, without being too overtly 'beachy'. I could imagine being in that cozy cottage year round, with just a few tweaks.
